Episode 26
Pressed to hear about the relationship between Yu Xiao Gang and Liu Er Long, Fei Lan De reveals and confirms to his students that there was a one-sided love there. Liu Er Long had fallen for Yu Xiao Gang back then, but they never got together. The woman Yu Xiao Gang did get together with is Bi Bi Dong, the current Chief of Martial Soul Hall. It’s a fact which impresses the students. But this relationship between Yu Xiao Gang and Bi Bi Dong back then is what had disbanded their Golden Iron Triangle as Liu Er Long was extremely upset about it.
It’s all in the past, though, so it had little effect on the request Yu Xiao Gang relayed on behalf of Fei Lan De. In fact, after being caught up with the situation of having been kicked out of Tian Dou Imperial School and hearing Yu Xiao Gang deny having ever met up with Bi Bi Dong again, Liu Er Long showed great willingness to help Yu Xiao Gang with the request. Not only does Liu Er Long agrees to let Shi Lan Ke School sign up under Lanba School’s name, she goes further by offering to change the school’s name to Shi Lan Ke School. She goes Even further by offering Yu Xiao Gang the headmaster position.
Yu Xiao Gang declines her offer to change the school’s name feeling it inappropriate. He also declines taking over the school as headmaster position because he sees himself as just a teacher. But with Liu Er Long set on changing the school’s name to Shi Lan Ke School as well as strong down as headmistress of the School, she makes the decision the school will now become Shi Lan Ke School; and since Yu Xiao Gang isn’t interested in being the headmaster, she hands the position to Fei Lan De so she can become an ordinary teacher with Yu Xiao Gang.
Meanwhile, over at Tian Dou City where Xue Qing He and Hu Lie Na are, Hu Lie Na’s true motives is revealed right after her true identity is exposed. Having some people investigate her, Xue Qing He learns the real Hu Lie Na died two years ago. The Hu Lie Na before him is actually Qian Ren Xue. Xue Qing He had Hu Lie Na reveal this after making her release her Martial Soul and shackling her wrists as a means to make sure she didn’t try anything. Not only is she not actually called Hu Lie Na, but she also isn’t the direct disciple of Bi Bi Dong. She’s in fact even closer to Bi Bi Dong than a direct disciple. Hu Lie Na—or rather Qian Ren Xue—is actually Bi Bi Dong’s daughter.
Xue Qing He asking why she entered Shi Lan Ke School, Hu Lie Na tells him the real motive; and that is to replace Dai Mu Bai. It wasn’t because she liked Dai Mu Bai. Xue Qing He being curious about how she would go about replacing Dai Mu Bai, Hu Lie Na sets about answering this question by putting Xue Qing He into a trance using her necklace. With him under this trance, she explains the necklace to the now unaware Xue Qing He as a Tool Soul with Six Soul Rings which her mother Bi Bi Dong lent her. This fact seems to have been told to reveal just how strong her borrowed power is. Presumably it will mean the power of the necklace can affect Soul Masters with Soul Rings as high as six.
Hu Lie Na then reveals her real Martial Soul right after breaking free of the shackles which apparently never had any hold of her wrists because the Martial Soul Xue Qing He had her release was the fake one. This Martial Soul which sees three leaf-like patterns appear behind each side of her is the real one. Exactly what this Martial Soul is isn’t revealed at this point, but the Martial Soul possesses the ability to take on the appearance and identity of others. It is this ability she will look to use to replace Dai Mu Bai: becoming Xue Qing He by using his appearance and his identity is how she intends to do it.
With Liu Er Long having agreed to help Fei Lan De and Yu Xiao Gang, the three former Golden Iron Triangle members set off to register the Shi Lan Ke School students for the contest. When they try to register, though, they are refused. Xue Xing had given orders to not allow it until Lanba School clears their debt of 2000 Gold Soul Coins.
So, as a way to begin paying back this debt, Ou Si Ke with Dai Mu Bai and Ma Hong Jun set about drumming up an audience in the streets for their play as a way to raise money. It’s a play which sees Ou Si Ke play the hero, Dai Mu Bai play the demon and Ma Hong Jun play the sleeping princess. In its last scene, Dai Mu Bai is made to play a demon being killed by Ou Si Ke before Ou Si Ke moves to save the princess with a kiss (which Ma Hong Jun wasn’t keen on Ou Si Ke’s attempt to land a real one on him!) and return to the princess to her normal form (which is supposed to be a frog, being from the Frog Kingdom).
Talk about the play, which becomes a topic between Xiao Wu and Tang San whilst Xiao Wu cleaned up the room and Tang San fixed Xiao Wu’s broken Godly Crossbow, sees Xiao Wu reveal she had wanted to try playing the part of princess because neither Ning Rong Rong nor Zhu Zhu Qing was willing. However, Xiao Wu expresses that she didn’t end up trying for the part because apparently Tang San wouldn’t allow her to act.
Up until this point, Tang San had been in a half-listening-half-fixing kind of state while talking with Xiao Wu. Even he heard Xiao Wu expressed an interest in the part, though, Tang San stopped working on the crossbow immediately. He straightened and turned to express his clear disapproval in Xiao Wu acting in the play, specifically mentioning the kiss scene as the reason: “Of course you can’t!” Tang San exclaimed. “Do you know that in Ou Si Ke’s play he kisses you?”
Tang San doesn’t admit to anything when Xiao Wu gets Tang San to explain exactly why the kiss scene had clearly bothered him. “Brother, could it be that you don’t want me to be kissed?” Xiao Wu had asked. Tang San only tells her it’s because Ou Si Ke’s play is so horrible before turning away from Xiao Wu has leaned in to get a clearer view of his response.
In an attempt to move away focus on the topic and dispel the awkwardness he was feeling about the topic, Tang San hands the repaired Godly Crossbow back to Xiao Wu before telling her to be careful using it. He seems to think that maybe Xiao Wu has broken it because she was randomly firing it at things. Xiao Wu tells Tang San she’s never used her Godly Crossbow and that it was Ning Rong Rong who had used it and broken it whilst trying to see how it worked. Ning Rong Rong had borrowed Xiao Wu’s because she had broken her own one long ago presumably for the same reason she broke Xiao Wu’s.
The topic leads to revisiting Ning Rong Rong’s idea to sell Tang San’s Godly Crossbow and having him make lots of money off of it that was mentioned in Episode 24. She had mentioned wanting to show it to her father and having him set a price. Since then, she’s gotten great interest from her clan after following through with her idea. They were willing to pay Tang San handsomely for the Godly Crossbow which can’t come soon enough with that debt Lanba School must pay off.
Ning Rong Rong’s help sees Tang San express his gratitude as he and Xiao Wu head towards her clan with Ning Rong Rong (she had shown up to let Tang San know all this a short moment after Xiao Wu had explained why her Godly Crossbow was broken). Although this idea to help Tang San sell his Godly Crossbow and make him lots of money had come before their need for money to pay off the debt and enter the contest, Tang San’s desire to enter the contest had given Ning Rong Rong the reason for needing to do it. As well as helping Tang San get into the contest, Ning Rong Rong seems to have her own wish, which is to see everyone enter the contest. She hoped that by entering the contest, they could all make the final round together, become stronger and one day make Shi Lan Ke School the top school in Douluo Continent. So, although, she had done this for Tang San, it could also be said that she had done this for the whole team and the school as well.
In Episode 24, when Tang San had thought about taking on the Fiend Battle Team alone because of his hope of finding out who Ye Zhi Qiu was and who the head was at Cang Hui School was, Ning Rong Rong had also made the offer to help Tang San look into those matters. Again, she makes good on her offer. She had asked her father to look into Cang Hui School as well as Ye Zhi Qiu and a spy.
The information the spy had gathered reveals not much in terms of who controlled Cang Hui School or much about Ye Zhi Qiu and his mission. What the spy return with is that Cang Hui School was a small and obscure school; and that Ye Zhi Qiu is a student at Cangui School, that he has no friends at the school and that he hardly interacts with anyone outside of school. Tang San had asked Ning Rong Rong who Ye Zhi Qiu interacted with normally, but Ning Rong Rong wasn’t able to answer this question. This saw her offer to have someone keep an eye on Ye Zhi Qiu a bit longer, but believing Ye Zhi Qiu to be a very cautious person and one who remains inconspicuous, Tang San declined the offer. He figured following Ye Zhi Qiu won’t find allow them to learn much information. It seems not only is information about Ye Zhi Qiu quite guarded, but Cang Hui School and its operations are, too.
As Ning Rong Rong and Tang San talk, Xiao Wu disappears on them. It causes quite a bit of worry when they discover her missing. Thankfully, though, the disappearance is not of a sinister nature. Xiao Wu had just stopped at a stall selling wild hare as food. As someone who likes animals and as someone who finds them cute, she felt sorry for them. She didn’t want the hares to be eaten. This sees Ning Rong Rong step in to offer to help Xiao Wu save them by buying them all. The rescue sees Xiao Wu regard Ning Rong Rong as the best—actually second best, second only to Tang San by a smidgen.
While Ning Rong Rong and Xiao Wu are at the stall, Tang San disappears next. This time, the disappearance is serious. Xiao Wu and Ning Rong Rong’s search sees them unable to find Tang San even after night had fallen.
Returning to the new site of Shi Lan Ke School, the former Lanba School, Xiao Wu and Ning Rong Rong report back to Fei Lan De and Yu Xiao Gang about the disappearance. In an effort to try think of some possible people who might want to capture Tang San as well as know Tang San had entered Tian Dou City, they first suspect Ye Zhi Qiu, but think it unlikely for him to act so abruptly and kidnap Tang San in public.
Yu Xiao Gang wondering who else might be aware of Tang San having enter Tian Dou City, it sees Ning Rong Rong mention her own clan. Yu Xiao Gang had shown alarm when Ning Rong Rong mentioned her clan, leading Ning Rong Rong to explain that she was just setting up a meeting between them to sell Tang San’s Godly Crossbow. She appears to have worried Yu Xiao Gang might think her clan was responsible. Yu Xiao Gang let’s her know that it wasn’t his meaning. He just wanted to think of everyone who might know Tang San was in the city in order to figure out who might want to capture him.
Continuing, Fei Lan De arrive at suspecting Du Gu Bo. With him appearing at Tian Dou Imperial School and having wanted to take Tang San away that time, Du Gu Bo was a very likely suspect. Believing Du Gu Bo to be the captor, it sees Ning Rong Rong suggest going to Tian Dou Imperial School and getting Tang San back. With Fei Lan De believing Du Gu Bo to be behind the abduction as well, but not wanting to jump to conclusions about why Du Gu Bo/Tian Dou Imperial School might want to capture Tang San, he suggests they seek Yu Tian Heng first for an explanation in the morning.
Handling Tang San’s capture in a calm and tactful manner is not what happens the next day as Xiao Wu’s worry sees her attempt to force her way into Tian Dou Imperial School demanding she be let through to search for Tang San. As Yu Tian Heng remarks, for someone with Triple Soul Rings, Xiao Wu is quite something as she is seen fighting until she isn’t able to fight anymore. The actual fight isn’t shown, but from the looks of the many guards/students she has fall unconscious, she fought and persisted for quite a long time. But she was no match for Yu Tian Heng. He looked to have been the one to have brought her down as he is heard telling Xiao Wu that her Teleport doesn’t work on him just before we see her outside the school’s gate, beaten and unconscious.
Believing this to be a misunderstanding, Yu Tian Heng doesn’t seek punishment. He had instructed his people to have Xiao Wu’s masters—that is Fei Lan De and Yu Xiao Gang—bring her back to Lanba/Shi Lan Ke School, but Xue Xing (who shows up to stop Yu Tian Heng) wouldn’t allow it. For Xiao Wu’s attempt to force her way into the school, Xue Xing hands down the punishment of being hung at the front gate for three days.
Fei Lan De, Yu Xiao Gang and Liu Er Long weren’t going to let that happen. Just as Xiao Wu is hung, Fei Lan De charges in to break the rope with his Soul Skill to have Xiao Wu come down into his arms. Xiao Wu was his student, Fei Lan De tells Xue Xing. Fei Lan De’s meaning is that he will be the one to deal with her. Xue Xing is insistent about Xiao Wu being punished by him and warns Fei Lan De that if he insists on saving Xiao Wu then Fei Lan De will be insisting on being against the Imperial School. Fei Lan De only repeats what he had told him: that Xiao Wu is his student. Xue Xing warns Fei Lan De once, making Fei Lan De know that his actions will provoke a conflict between them.
Yu Xiao Gang seeing that they’ve nothing to lose with how poor they are, he tells Xue Xing exactly this before Xiao Wu is taken away with them. Xue Xing makes no move to stop them, but as the Tian Dou prince has warned such action means they are against them and intends to go after them.
It’s an unfortunate outcome from actions that turns out to have been ones Xiao Wu should not have taken so quickly. Tang San’s disappearance was indeed the work of Du Gu Bo. However, it has no connection with Tian Dou Imperial School. His disappearance has to do with Du Gu Bo’s granddaughter, Du Gu Yan, who Tang San accidentally poisoned.
In a cave, Tang San wake. With no one is around, it sees Tang San walking outside into a grassy hill where a woman’s voice calls him. Curiously, it’s the same soft, gentle voice he has heard many times in his dreams and during times he’s absorbing a Soul Ring. Asking who it is calling him, he gets no response.
As he looks around to try figure out who it was calling him, Tang San soon comes face to face with his captor, Du Gu Bo. Tang San is dragged back into the cave and is made to answer questions over Du Gu Yan’s poisoning.
Du Gu Yan’s state is not good. Because of Tang San unintentional transfer of Ye Zhi Qiu’s poison back at Star Forest, she lay unconscious and incurable. As Du Gu Bo has Tang San know, the poison in her is a variant of his own poisonous smoke. Despite it being a poison Du Gu Bo recognises, despite knowing the source to be a variant of his own and despite him being the Grand Soul Land Master of the subject, he isn’t able to cure his granddaughter.
(Du Gu Bo’s title is just Venom because he has complete knowledge of the subject and is able to thoroughly analyse, understand and trace back to the source. This is what it means to be a Grand Soul Land Master and receive a single title such as Venom.)
The reason Du Gu Bo isn’t able to cure Du Gu Yan is because the poison has the ability to revive after it’s neutralised. It then mutates to a new kind of poison.
Because the poison was seen to have come from Tang San and he is still alive and well, Tang San is accused of deliberately poisoning Du Gu Yan as well as holding back on the antidote. Tang San explains this is not at all the case. Explaining the situation as truly an accident, Tang San tells Du Gu Bo about his struggle with absorbing the Human Faced Demon Spider’s Soul Ring at the time (Episode 16). Because the Soul Bone had gone into his body, he had no awareness of the situation and couldn’t stop the incident from happening.
Verifying Tang San’s story, Du Gu Bo uses his powers to force the Soul Bone Tang San talked about out for him to see. Eight legs of the Human Faced Demon Spider erupt from Tang San’s back. Tang San was not lying.
Tang San’s claim that he doesn’t have the antidote, though, Du Gu Bo won’t believe. In his view, Tang San can’t possibly be standing there alive and well before him if he didn’t have it. This leads Tang San to explain it as having immunity against all poisons. He explains Yu Xiao Gang’s theory about the poison having been synthesised within his body by the Soul Rings of the Apple Thorn Snake and the Human Faced Demon Spider which he absorbed. They had resulted in Tang San developing the immunity to poisons.
Du Gu Bo is sceptical about Tang San’s claim and once again moves to have Tang San prove it by getting him to drink not just one kind of poison but every poison Du Gu Bo has. Tang San does so and suffers nothing but hiccups after drinking to the point where he can’t down anymore. Du Gu Bo believes Tang San now. Tang San really is immune to poisons.
Wanting to find out why Cang Hui School wanted to poison Du Gu Yan, the Grand Soul Land Master makes the decision to head to Cang Hui School to find out. He allows Tang San to join him, but not because he trusts Tang San. In fact, Du Gu Bo is still very much wary of him. Because of this wariness, he threatens to kill Tang San so many times during their journey towards Cang Hui school that Tang San knows it already and is heard trying to assure he won’t try anything when he’s not looking.
The interaction between Tang San and Du Gu Bo while traveling towards Cang Hui School has a light, entertaining nature to it. Du Gu Bo had asked Tang San whether he was afraid of him, Tang San’s response is the truth: there wasn’t a need since he was being truth about not having had any intentions of harming Du Gu Yan. It sees Du Gu Bo point out that he’s the Venom Soul Master which in turn has Tang San point out that he’s immune. Du Gu Bo seems to have been so used to people being intimidated by him he’s forgotten momentarily about Tang San’s immunity to poisons and seemingly why he was repeatedly threatening Tang San with death to begin with.
Right after this response of Tang San’s (a response which Tang San had pointed out with no other intention other than pointing out a fact), it sees Du Gu Bo have no other response other than tell Tang San that his body really is breaking quite some rules. Here Du Gu Bo is, a Grand Soul Land Master with Nine Soul Rings probably possessing some pretty lethal poisons and fear-inducing Soul Skills, but none of them works on Tang San. Tang San should be quite wary and scared of Du Gu Bo, but it’s Du Gu Bo who is wary and not feeling at ease when Tang San next to him.
To assure the Grand Soul Land Master he wasn’t thinking of trying anything on him, Tang San mentions Du Gu Bo’s level of power and lets him know that Tang San knows he is no match for him.
As they continue towards their destination, Du Gu Bo suddenly stops in his tracks. Tang San asking why he’s stopped, Du Gu Bo reveals having been poisoned himself. Explains how he was poisoned, Du Gu Bo reveals having gone and injected some of Du Gu Yan’s blood into himself in order to feel the nature of the poison in Du Gu Yan and experience the changes.
This fact has Tang San discover the reason to why Du Gu Yan was harmed. Ye Zhi Qiu knew this would be what Du Gu Bo would do to try save his granddaughter. He knew that by poisoning Du Gu Yan, Du Gu Bo would poison himself in an attempt to understand the poison. Tang San’s part in Ye Zhi Qiu’s plan is to have Tang San be convinced to go to Tian Dou City and tell Du Gu Bo the truth when captured—which Ye Zhi Qiu seemingly predicted will and has happened. This will then lead Du Gu Bo to make the decision to go to Cang Hui School himself. In doing so, he’d be walking right into the school to be captured. This last part about relying on Tang San to tell the truth and Du Gu Bo to ultimately make the decision to go to Cang Hui are things Du Gu Bo had realised himself; and things which sees him realise that he was the real target.
Fortunately, Du Gu Bo had his necklace—a jade pendant—which flashes orange when the poison in his system becomes unstable the closer he gets to Cang Hui School. Du Gu Bo believes that without the jade pendant to warn him, he would definitely have been captured the moment he reached Cang Hui.
Du Gu Bo unable to go any further, Tang San suggests he go there in place of Du Gu Bo. Despite discovering Ye Zhi Qiu’s scheme and that Tang San was used in that scheme to target him, Du Gu Bo still worries about Tang San double-crossing him. With yet another warning to Tang San about not double-crossing him else face being killed, Du Gu Bo accepts Tang San’s suggestion to not only go in place of him, but work together.
Making it to Cang Hui School, Tang San gets in easily as the people at the door lets him in without so much as a question about who Tang San is or why he wanted to see Ye Zhi Qiu. (These people Tang San encounters appear trancelike, like they weren’t entirely conscious.) Finding Ye Zhi Qiu, Tang San starts with trying to get Ye Zhi Qiu to admit to the scheme Tang San and Du Gu Bo had just discovered. There’s no admission or denial from Ye Zhi Qiu, just words about it not having anything to do with Tang San.
Tang San continuing with the questions, he asks whether it was all orders from the Hao Tian Soul Master, leading Tang San to asking whether he can meet him. Ye Zhi Qiu obliges, taking Tang San to a man he addresses as “Master” and supposedly the Hao Tian Soul Master. Tang San prepares himself, visibly taking a breath and steeling himself to see his father’s face. After a short time, the man steps out behind split curtains which hung over the room he was appearing from. The man who appeared before him wasn’t his father, but whether he is the Hao Tian Soul Master Ye Zhi Qiu had been talking or just yet another person working for the Hao Tian Soul Master coming out to greet him is yet to be confirmed. It’s a question which Tang San moves to ask.
Episode 27
The man Tang San meets isn’t the Hao Tian Grand Soul Land Master but a teacher at Cang Hui School known as Shi Nian. Their meeting sees Tang San’s mind controlled, made to consider Cang Hui his friends and agree to carry out a task which Shi Nian doesn’t specify after getting to the Soul Master School Contest final.
Shi Nian being curious why Du Gu Bo didn’t come see him personally, Tang San tells him that he was poisoned and didn’t dare to come. It sees Shi Nian tell Tang San to relay the message that Du Gu Bo must go see him and agree to join them if he wants the poison removed from Du Gu Yan or himself. It therefore reveals that what Cang Hui wants is for Du Gu Bo to align with them rather than Tian Dou Imperial School.
Tang San’s mind still under Shi Nian’s mind control, Tang San is let go. He returns to Du Gu Bo with a possessed-like gaze and smile appearing as if he was not going to come out of this trance and looking like he could betray his deal to work together with Du Gu Bo. But luckily Tang San does come out of it. Thanks to that same soft and gentle female voice he’s heard in his dreams and that one time outside Du Gu Bo’s cave calling him, Tang San breaks free of the mind control. This voice was his saviour and is looking to be protecting him.
Tang San doesn’t remember anything that’s been said to him or what had happened when he wakes. However, speaking to Du Gu Bo, Tang San is aware that he was under Shi Nian’s control. He reveals not remember exactly what he had agreed to, but knows he had agreed to everything that had been said. Tang San also talks about having a positive impression of Shi Nian, saying that he felt Shi Nian came off as kind. Du Gu Bo makes the suggestion that Shi Nian possibly belonged to the Spirit Branch. It’s a suggestion which Tang San believes to be the case.
With Tang San having broken out of Shi Nian’s mind control, none of Shi Nian’s messages about waiting for Du Gu Bo to go to him to remove the poison on the condition he joins them gets relayed. Cang Hui’s attempt to use Du Gu Yan’s poisoning to blackmail Du Gu Bo into joining them is set to be rid of altogether as Tang San comes up with an idea to saves her as well as Du Gu Bo.
Returning to Du Gu Bo’s cave, Tang San suggests a blood transfusion using his Blue Silver Plant. Explaining to Du Gu Bo how not only is his Blue Silver Plant immune to poisons, but its veins are also hollow, it makes the perfect tool to draw out the poison that’s mixed with Du Gu Yan’s blood to be replaced with his own blood. As her blood is being extracted and replaced by his, her poisoned blood can be transferred into him to replace the loss of his blood. It’s a treatment which Du Gu Bo never thought to try. For one, he didn’t have blood which can remove toxins like Tang San, and second, he didn’t have a tool like the Blue Silver Plant to do it. This treatment could work.
Before Tang San gets to doing this, Tang San wants Du Gu Bo to agree to three conditions. The first is for Du Gu Bo to help with the 2000 Gold Soul Coins debt; the second is help Tang San hold onto the Hao Tian Grand Soul Master behind Cang Hui as Tang San believes he’s been controlled by Shi Nian; and lastly, he wants Du Gu Bo to allow him to return to Shi Lan Ke School momentary to let the others know about his situation.
The first two conditions Du Gu Bo agrees to do. The third condition of returning to Shi Lan Ke School, Du Gu Bo had initially denied, but grants a few moments later when Tang San threatens to try something during the transfusion should Du Gu Bo refuse granting him the third condition. Du Gu Bo not wanting to take that risk Du Gu Yan suffering harm, he agrees to the condition before accompanying Tang San to Shi Lan Ke School.
Reaching the gates of the Shi Lan Ke School, Tang San are met with people from Tian Dou Imperial School guarding it. Xue Xing’s vow to not let Xiao Wu off after Fei Lan De, Yu Xiao Gang and Liu Er Long took her away sees the Tian Dou Prince personally visit to give Shi Lan Ke School a chance to save Xiao Wu through to a battle with Yu Tian Heng. If just one person from Shi Lan Ke School can beat Yu Tian Heng, Xue Xing agrees to let Xiao Wu go and forget about her transgression.
Yu Tian Heng being a stronger than normal Soul Master with Quadruple Soul Rings, chances of anyone from Shi Lan Ke School defeating Yu Tian Heng is very low. Xue Xing’s expects there to be no chance he will be leaving without Xiao Wu in his custody; and judging from the power of Yu Tian Heng’s electric-type attacks which has Dai Mu Bai unable to break through, things are not looking good for Xiao Wu and Shi Lan Ke School.
Shi Lan Ke School are yet to be counted down and out, especially with Du Gu Bo on Tang San’s side at this current time because he’s the only one who can save Du Gu Yan. With the guards calling for Tang San’s arrest following Tang San’s admission that he was someone from Shi Lan Ke School, Du Gu Bo firstly incapacitates them with his poisonous smoke to let Tang San through the gate and into the school.
Tang San had worried Du Gu Bo might have killed the guards, but he has only caused them to faint. This fact has Du Gu Bo reveal a small piece of information regarding the nature of his relationship with the Tian Dou royals: he tells Tang San that would never harm the Tian Dou royals as they were the ones who had provided resources to help him advance to Nine Soul Rings. This sees Tang San ask whether Du Gu Bo was Tian Dou Imperial School as claimed. This question Du Gu Bo doesn’t answer, but from the looks of things Du Gu Bo’s loyalties only go as far as not harming the royals. Any other matters such as power struggles he’s so far shown to stay out.
It’s also safe to presume Du Gu Bo has no interest in this fight that’s going on between Tian Dou Imperial School and Shi Lan Ke School. However, seeing as this relates to Tang San who he is depending on to save his granddaughter, Du Gu Bo extends another helping hand in equipping Tang San with a powerful punch through the transfer of power to Tang San’s right hand.
Tang San moving to take over from Dai Mu Bai after being caught up on Xiao Wu and the situation which led to this fight, Yu Tian Heng is sent crashing into a pillar behind him with one punch to the chest. The strike is so strong it knocks Yu Tian Heng right out, giving Shi Lan Ke School the one victory they needed to save Xiao Wu.
The unbelievable strength sees Xue Xing accuse Tang San of playing tricks. In Xue Xing’s view, there was no way Yu Tian Heng could lose. But the fact of the situation is that Yu Tian Heng lose. As Fei Lan De reminds Xue Xing, the deal is that they only need one person from Shi Lan Ke School to defeat Yu Tian Heng for Xiao Wu to be forgiven and let go. That’s what happened. Xue Xing unable to go back on his word, he leaves with a reminder about the debt they must pay off before they can enter the Soul Master School Contest.
Challenge won, Tang San is taken to Xiao Wu. He’s given enough time to see Xiao Wu regain consciousness, to learn that she broke into Tian Dou Imperial School because of him and to tell her he’d beaten Yu Tian Heng for her before Du Gu Bo comes in to rush Tang San in returning with him. Fei Lan De (who was in the room with them) had wanted to stop Du Gu Bo even though he was no match for him.
Tang San assures Fei Lan De he’s going because he’s willing.
Xiao Wu is unwilling to let Tang San go—at least not alone. Told about the swapping of blood as a way to save Du Gu Yan who he poisoned, she holds onto Tang San, worried about the process being too dangerous and won’t let Tang San go. She tells him that he had promised to always be by her side. Du Gu Bo solves this problem easily. He has Xiao Wu join them.
When they get back to the cave, Du Gu Bo figured Xiao Wu would make a good hostage. Tang San had wanted Xiao Wu to wait outside whilst the transfusion took place. Xiao Wu not wanting to leave Tang San’s side, Du Gu Bo seemed to have thought after the fact that Xiao Wu’s presence would make a good reason for Tang San to make sure he succeeds else he’d poison her.
Told to begin the transfusion, Tang San inserts a vine into Du Gu Yan’s right arm to draw out her blood. Meanwhile, the other end coming through her left arm and back into his left palm is used to transfer his blood into her. Although the idea is good and can work, the issue is the amount of Soul Power required to keep the Blue Silver Plant going during this process.
As Yu Xiao Gang explains when he and Liu Er Long make it back to Shi Lan Ke School (they look to have been separated from Fei Lan De and Xiao Wu during Xiao Wu’s rescue), Tang San’s current ability is insufficient in sustaining the complete transfusion process. Yu Xiao Gang believes Tang San’s Soul Power will run out before the process is complete. At that time both Tang San and Du Gu Yan will die. It is a fatal procedure which Yu Xiao Gang, Fei Lan De and Liu Er Long soon look to stop. They have no clue where Du Gu Bo have taken Tang San and Xiao Wu, but fortunately they’re able to track their scent with Luo San Pao’s powerful sense of smell.
While Luo San Pao leads them to Du Gu Bo’s cave in hopes of rescuing Tang San and Xiao Wu from Du Gu Bo, inside the cave, Tang San’s already struggling. As Yu Xiao Gang had said would happen, Tang San was running out of Soul Power. It sees Xiao Wu fear Tang San can’t hold on and wants him to stop, but stopping will mean they both die as Yu Xiao Gang had said. It’s a fact which Du Gu Bo knows as well. He’s just hoping Tang San will hold on.
Relying on hope that Tang San can hold on isn’t the only option they have. Xiao Wu can help. She has the ability to transfer and absorb Soul Power. She could support Tang San with the transfer of her Soul Power to keep him going. Telling Du Gu Bo about this ability, he initially doesn’t believe she had such an ability because he’s never heard of anyone that could do that. Xiao Wu insists she has this ability and can help with the process. What’s more, there was nothing to lose. If Tang San fails (which he’s looking to be soon), he and Du Gu Yan was going to die; so, he might as well let her try. Seemingly seeing this, Du Gu Bo allows Xiao Wu to do what she claims she can do.
Stepping behind Tang San, Xiao Wu begins supporting him with her Soul Power, surprising Du Gu Bo such an ability is possible. Tang San is seen to show less of a struggle as Xiao Wu takes on the burden. The burden on Xiao Wu becomes so great that she begins losing her Soul Rings. In a shocking fashion, her Third Soul Ring breaks apart before disappearing. After a little while, her Second Soul Ring breaks apart and disappears.
Du Gu Bo shows shock and concern, but it’s not for her well-being. He’s worried that she might stop. He wanted and tells Xiao Wu to keep going until Du Gu Yan was treated.
Xiao Wu never considered stopping. Just like how Tang San would stop at nothing to protect and save her, she was going to stop at nothing to protect and save Tang San even if it meant losing her Soul Rings, and even if it meant losing her Soul Power and she’s never able to become a Soul Master again just as how Tang San had done back at Nouding School where he was willing to ruin his own Martial Soul in order to get Xiao Wu out is the electric cage Xiao Chen Yu had trapped her and Yu Xiao Gang in. She expresses that in her heart, she also vowed to protect Tang San no matter what just as Tang San had vowed to do.
Eventually Xiao Wu loses her final Soul Ring as her First Soul Ring breaks apart and disappears. It happens right as the transfusion nears completion. Falling off to the side and collapsing on the ground, she leaves Tang San to finish off what ends up being a successful transfusion on his own.
Tang San is next seen alive and well and demanding Du Gu Bo stop fighting Yu Xiao Gang, Fei Lan De and Liu Er Long outside the part of the cave where the transfusion took place. Yu Xiao Gang, Fei Lan De and Liu Er Long had arrived inside Du Gu Bo’s cave shortly after Xiao Wu lost her Second Soul Ring. Having sensed their presence, it saw Du Gu Bo leave Tang San and Xiao Wu in the cave to continue the process to deal with them.
Although Yu Xiao Gang, Fei Lan De and Liu Er Long knew very well their individual Soul Skills and their team of two Soul Saints (they being Fei Lan De and Liu Er Long) and a Soul Master with Double Soul Rings (this being Yu Xiao Gang) were no match against a Grand Soul Land Master with Nine Soul Rings and his poisonous Soul Skills, they still put in their all in facing off against Du Gu Bo in an attempt to try and save Tang San and Xiao Wu.
Using a Martial Soul Fusion Skill which Du Gu Bo admits yet again to be a skill that didn’t exist, Fei Lan De, Yu Xiao Gang and Liu Er Long attempt to overcome Du Gu Bo’s cloud of poisonous smoke. Combining their powers to form the Soul Skill of the Golden Iron Triangle, the Sacred Dragon, Luo San Pao is floated into the air and commanded to launch at Du Gu Bo to block and try overpower this poisonous cloud. The three members of Golden Iron Triangle manage to hold Du Gu Bo off for a short time, but they soon find themselves overpowered by the strength of a Grand Soul Land Master.
The calm, continuous attacks of Du Gu Bo eventually sees the fiery force of the Sacred Dragon holding off the Du Gu Bo’s attacks diminish into a small orange light before giving in to Du Gu Bo’s power. A small explosion sees the poisonous smoke break through and fill the cave before clearing. In a nice to finish the Golden Iron Triangle off, Du Gu Bo continues his attack, sending one which snaked towards Liu Er Long.
In a move to try protect Yu Xiao Gang, the Double Soul Rings Soul Master jumps in front of the Seven Soul Rings Soul Master. Because of Tang San having come just in the knick of time to stop Du Gu Bo, the hit never comes, but it reveals Yu Xiao Gang’s willingness to injure himself or die for Liu Er Long. When Yu Xiao Gang is confronted about this act of his sometime later he denies ever thinking of doing such a thing. How could he possibly have thought to do such a thing with his level he said. But Fei Lan De betrays him by confirming that Yu Xiao Gang did indeed stand in front of Liu Er Long in order to protect her.
Tang San assuring that he’s fine and that they can leave first, Fei Lan De, Yu Xiao Gang and Liu Er Long lets Tang San stay and see to his responsibility of ensuring Du Gu Yan as well as Du Gu Bo are cured from their poisoning.
Tang San and Du Gu Bo returning to the cave, Xiao Wu eventually wakes to try reabsorbing her Soul Power back from Tang San. She finds herself unable to do it, though. With her Soul Rings crushed, she no longer is able to form the Soul Ring. Not having this ability to form the Soul Ring, means she’s unable to absorb Soul Power. She expresses the hard reality of no longer being able become a Soul Master after her act in save Tang San as well as Du Gu Yan.
Tang San displays a rather calm, unconcerned front before Xiao Wu as she tells him all of this. It almost comes off as if he hasn’t quite let sink the gravity of this situation, but it looks to be Tang San trying to remain positive so Xiao Wu won’t feel like there was no hope or chance of recovery. He first tries suggesting Xiao Wu teach him to transfer Soul Power like she does so that he could return it to her instead. Told there was no way he could learn this, that no one can, Tang San is unable to suggest anything else, but to try staying positive, telling her there must be other ways and that he will accompany her to practice from the beginning.
Tang San’s concern leaks through slightly after as his gaze is seen to be in the direction of Du Gu Bo. Before Xiao Wu had woken, Du Gu Bo had told him about Xiao Wu likelihood of recovery. He had told Tang San that Xiao Wu losing her Soul Power was not life-threatening, but worse case scenario is that she becomes a common person.
Leaving Xiao Wu, Tang San lightly pulls Du Gu Bo to the side to asks again whether Xiao Wu can recover. He seems to hope that maybe Du Gu Bo might offer a solution or suggestion that Xiao Wu might have a chance of recovery, but Du Gu Bo is unable to offer such solution or suggestion. His belief is that Xiao Wu has no chance of recovery with all her Soul Power gone. It sees Tang San show a deep frown as the reality of the situation troubles him. Still, he seems unwilling to accept that this is it for Xiao Wu.
Unable to do anything right at this moment, Tang San puts the matter to the side for the time being to see to fulfilling his promise to remove poison from Du Gu Bo’s body as well. With Tang San showing he barely managed to save Du Gu Yan with the help of Xiao Wu’s Soul Power, Du Gu Bo doubts Tang San had enough Soul Power to treat him. And so, Tang San is released from this second part of his promise to save him. Du Gu Bo tells Tang San that it’s enough that he saved Du Gu Yan.
Episode 28
Du Gu Bo’s promises are nothing but empty promises and promises which he didn’t even need to do anything about. Tang San released from his end of the bargain, Tang San has moved to collect from Du Gu Bo only to learn Du Gu Bo had no intention of fulfilling them because for one he didn’t have 2000 Gold Soul Coins to fulfill the first promises. The cave he lives in, the things he needs, the food he eats are all provided by the Royal Family. He is as Du Gu Bo says penniless.
As for the second promise to help Tang San find and bring out the Grand Soul Land Master which Tang San believed was under Shi Nian’s mind control, Du Gu Bo now tells Tang San more or less there’s no need. The reason is because it’s not possible the Grand Soul Land Master could be under Shi Nian’s control. Only a Grand Soul Land Master from the Spirit Branch could control a Grand Soul Land Master. Anyone below this level would have been been discovered by the Grand Soul Land Master because seeing through the nature of the Martial Soul is an ability of a Grand Soul Land Master. So, there was never any need to help said Grand Soul Land Master escape.
The way Du Gu Bo was so shameless in promising Tang San things he never intended to keep has Tang San speechless and scrunching his face in frustration. Unable to do anything, Tang San counts his losses and grabs Xiao Wu’s wrist to leave, but is stopped. Du Gu Bo may be shameless, but not so shameless he’d actually let Tang San leave with nothing.
Brought to a valley called Dream Valley, Du Gu Bo suggest the herbs in it as payment. The valley (which was created when the mountain’s peak was crushed by someone during a battle between a Grand Soul Land Master with Nine Soul Rings and Martial Soul Hall many years ago) contained many precious herbs which could be used to make poisons as well as cures. Such abundance of such quality herbs is the reason Du Gu Bo had chosen this place to settle to pursue his studies and obtained his Nine Soul Rings.
It’s not a quick way to earn the 2000 Gold Soul Coins. But what lies in the area is a barrier to a space which contains many herbs which are of premium quality. Furthermore, it’s a space which is perhaps more precious than Tang San could know. It’s an interspace which was meant for him and only him to enter.
Du Gu Bo showing Tang San the area protected by an invisible barrier, he explains how he had tried many times to pass through said barrier, but failed to do so. He tells Tang San that being the barrier there could be something even more precious (which he right) or nothing at all or there could be something dangerous. He wasn’t sure. What he does know is that despite being a Grand Soul Land Master with Nine Soul Rings, he couldn’t enter it and doubts Tang San could. But he seems to have told Tang San about it nonetheless.
Tang San hearing that same soft and gentle voice in his dreams calling him, he is given the instruction to use his Blue Silver Plant. Listening to the instruction, he brings out the Blue Silver Plant out and is surprised to see it pierce through the barrier. Grabbing Xiao Wu’s wrist, Tang San steps forward and finds himself and Xiao Wu through to the other side.
A field full of premium herbs covered the ground of the green-red-and-purple-hued environment. It’s the same field he’s seen many times before in his dreams. A shining circle with the Blue Silver Plant around its perimeter soon materialise before them. It’s a circle which appeared in Tang San’s dream, too, but the Blue Silver Plant didn’t shine. Xiao Wu thinking that maybe the shining light is like a key to activate it, she moves to touch it. A snaking light flows through Xiao Wu to Tang San. It sees both Tang San and Xiao Wu float before only Xiao Wu fall unconscious.
Xiao Wu’s wrist being held by Tang San before she had touched the light seemed to have been enough to activate the message which the circle had for Tang San. “Finally, you’re here, Tang San,” the voice began. It was the soft and gentle voice again. Tang San demanding to know who she was is finally answered: “I’m your mother,” she said.
Tang San doesn’t believe her at first and moves to try wake Xiao Wu to get her to leave with him. However, he stops when his mother continues to explain that it was because she had hid the power of the Blue Silver Plant in his heart which had him dream of this place. It had Tang San stop to listen to her, but still he refuses to believe her as tears start to fall down his cheeks. Her words about not fulfilling her responsibility as his mother and it being her greatest regret causes Tang San visible pain.
He seems to change, listening, feeling pain while appearing to also forgive her when she starts apologising and expressing that she owed him so much. He is seen shaking his head while tears continue to fall.
His mother moves onto telling Tang San how she died, by whose hands, how the Xuan Tian Records related to her and her death and what hopes she had. His mother mentions two reasons to why she died: her real identity which she won’t reveal, telling him his father will tell him when he’s ready; and second, her exploring an alternative type of power and way of training to Soul Masters and Martial Souls.
This alternative type of power and training is what Tang San has been asked to practice since he was a boy and was told to keep secret by his father, the Xuan Tian Records. It is the alternative to the current Soul Master system which requires Martial Souls and hunting Soul Beasts. If Xuan Tian Records can be mastered, there would be no need for Martial Souls or the hunting of Soul Beasts.
Martial Soul Hall, which gains its power and influence from their control over most of the forests where Soul Beasts live and where Soul Masters must gain passes to access (as seen in Episode 4) and the fact many Grand Soul Land Master reside at the place, was threatened by this alternative power and means of training and Tang San’s parents’ pursuit of it. For this reason (plus the real identity of Tang San’s mother), it’s what had former Chief of Martial Soul Hall, Qian Xun Ji, to lead a campaign to go after Tang San’s mother, causing her death.
Not wanting Tang San to develop hatred or seek revenge because of all this, Tang San’s mother has him know that this is not what she wishes for him. He has his own mission and future. She wants him to live well and not let hatred blind him. She does however wish for him to continue practicing Xuan Tian Records, use it as a base to train his Soul Skills to become a Soul Master and find a way where Soul Masters don’t have to depend on Martial Souls anymore.
This current Soul Master system which she had mentioned as being so strong is what has caused the relationship between Soul Masters and Soul Beasts to become irreconcilable. There’s been suggestion that a need for an alternative power and way of training such as techniques in Xuan Tian Records is necessary as a way to respond to the sharp decline of Soul Beasts which ultimately could mean extinction (Episode 15).
The future of Douluo Continent is as Tang San’s mother tells him lies in Tang San’s hands.
In her final words, seemingly not wanting him to mistaken her choices as being because he wasn’t enough for her, she has him know that when he was born it was the happiest moment in her life. Tang San would have given both her and his father meaning in their lives, but she admits to being a bit selfish in what appears to be going after her desire to see this alternative power and means of training become the dominant method. She presents him gifts which are the field of rare and premium herbs which she hopes can help him in the future. She specifically mentions having two gifts as being her real gifts: a divine herb called the Lovesick Heartbroken Scarlet and a spring called the Ice Fire Mouth Spring.
The Lovesick Heartbroken Scarlet flower feeds on love Tang San’s mother tells him. Before she died, she had hidden all her Soul Power in it. It’s this Soul Power of hers which would save Xiao Wu from becoming just a common person as the pink-hued energy as well as the flower flows into Xiao Wu. Explaining the Ice Fire Mouth Spring, his mother tells him that it can help him absorb a Soul Beast beyond his capacity. With these gifts she hopes they can help protect him.
Just before she leaves Tang San for the final time, she expresses one last wish: for him to accompany his father and not let him fall into the abyss of revenge or lose his humanity. Tang San connects these words to mean Cang Hui School and revenge on Martial Soul Hall. She then leaves him with words which she must have him know once again, that he is her most beloved person in this world. She wants him to be healthy and happy. He must learn to be kind and not be afraid of hardships. Finally, she wants him to know that her heart will always be with him.
Tang San calls after her to not leave as the Blue Silver Plant circle representing his mother begin to break up and disappear. She had added how much she had wanted to see him in her final words—words which had Tang San tell her that he was right before her and that she could see him if she wanted to. She couldn’t of course. He wasn’t before her.
Xiao Wu wakes up sometime after Tang San’s mother leaves him. It takes Tang San some time to speak when she asks him about what had happened and when the Ice Fire Mouth Spring they were sitting next to appeared before them. He was still very emotional about it all, mind seemingly heavy with all that was said to him and heart still hurting with his mother having left him. Tears were silently streaming down his cheeks when he finally tells Xiao Wu about the spring, the place they were in and how the voice in his dreams were all his mother’s. Reflecting on his dream and her voice calling him, he tells her that he now see that it was her guiding him to this interspace which not even his father could enter. (Xiao Wu was able to enter it because Tang San was holding her.)
Xiao Wu’s question about whether Tang San saw her and Tang San telling her that she’s gone seems to have had her think that he didn’t get the chance. It sees her pointing out the fact that his appearance is a combination of his parents’: she points to Tang San’s nose (or maybe she’s pointing to Tang San’s face in general) as resembling his father’s while Tang San’s eyes resembled his mother’s. This action of hers seems to have brought Tang San enough happiness it had him ready to make a move towards leaving the place and get onto thinking about how to recover Xiao Wu’s Martial Soul and Soul Power. This is when Xiao Wu reveals her full recovery. Her Martial Soul, her Soul Power, her Triple Soul Rings were not only back, but she tells Tang San she feels ready to advance to Quadruple Soul Rings.
After being told that her recovery is likely the result of the Lovesick Heartbroken Scarlet flower having transferred his mother’s Soul Power to Xiao Wu, Xiao Wu brings out the flower before expressing feeling a connection to it like it was protecting her. Tang San touches the petals of the flower before he turns to talk about the second gift from his mother, the Ice Fire Mouth Spring which had flowed out onto the ground from the Blue Silver Plant circle, leading to Xiao Wu expressing the fact the spring can only be absorbed once. This fact sees Tang San unable to bring himself to absorb it since it’s formed by his mother’s energy.
Tang San and Xiao Wu eventually make their way out after staying a little longer. While they were in there, they take it upon themselves to pick premium herbs which they intended to gift to everyone back at Shi Lan Ke School as well as sell to pay off that 2000-Gold-Soul-Coins debt Lanba School has.
Before Tang San and Xiao Wu make a start back towards Shi Lan Ke School, though, Tang San is dragged back to Du Gu Bo’s cave to settle Du Gu Yan’s claim that she and Tang San was thinking of getting married. Du Gu Yan was not serious. It was just her way of getting her grandfather to head out to look for Tang San and Xiao Wu after Du Gu Bo had told her that they had disappeared into that interspace which they tried to enter many times but failed in doing. It had Du Gu Yan think her grandfather had locked them up after saving her life. Her grandfather denies doing this, maintaining that they really broke through the barrier and he couldn’t do anything about Tang San and Xiao Wu if don’t come out themselves. But Du Gu Yan insisted he go look for them. So look for them he did. He waited until Tang San and Xiao Wu returned.
With Tang San and Xiao Wu back, Du Gu Yan reveals she was just joking about marrying Tang San. But then she restarts her joke and confuses her grandfather again with saying how she thought Tang San was quite cute and it didn’t sound so bad marrying him. It doesn’t bother him so much as it does Xiao Wu.
Du Gu Bo seemed willing to approve her marriage to Tang San if that’s who she liked. In fact, when she reveals it’s not Tang San she likes but someone else, Du Gu Bo told Du Gu Yan to capture this man to marry her. Xiao Wu on the other hand was totally against it. Du Gu Yan hadn’t only joked about Tang San being someone she wouldn’t mind marrying, but she offered to prove her seriousness in the matter by kissing Tang San. No way was Xiao Wu going to let that happen as she’s seen to block Du Gu Yan’s approach exclaiming her disapproval: “You can’t kiss him!”
Du Gu Yan let’s out a giggle after this before telling Xiao Wu that she won’t take Tang San away from her and that (as mentioned already), she has someone she liked. It doesn’t make her feel better. She seems unable to recover from the joke as the smile which doesn’t quite reach her eyes when she returns to Shi Lan Ke School drops to a sad frown while Tang San was busy giving everyone their gift of a premium herb. She is seen leaving the group with no one noticing, not even Tang San.
Starting with Dai Mu Bai, Tang San gifts him the Rare Powerful Chrysanthemum as it’s extremely effective for Strength type Martial Souls. It’ll allow Dai Mu Bai to advance to Quadruple Souls after eating it. Ou Si Ke is given the Eight Petal Fairy Orchid which Tang San tells him is mild and suits Food Branch Soul Masters like him. Zhu Zhu Qing receives Daffodil Jade Beauty as it suits Speed Type Martial Souls like hers. Ma Hong Jun gets Cockscomb Phoenix Flower as it can refine his flame, empower its power, and avoid losing control of his Martial Soul. Finally, Ning Rong Rong gets the Silk Woven Tulip which purifies the essence and aids Support Branch Martial Souls to advance.
Before Tang San left Du Gu Bo’s cave, he had also given the Grand Soul Land Master a premium herb called the Octa Dark Frost. It’s the most poisonous herb which gathers all the poisons in his body and produces one type of poison that is fixed, allowing Du Gu Bo to deal with finding a cute for one poison rather than one that mutates. It’s a gift which Tang San would like Du Gu Bo think of as more a deal to help Shi Lan Ke School enter the Soul Master School Contest than a gift. It’s a deal which Du Gu Bo accepts. How exactly Du Gu Bo will help isn’t revealed.
Making his way to see Yu Xiao Gang, Tang San gifts his master the Grade Nine Purple Mushroom which Tang San hopes can help expand his limits and advance beyond Double Soul Rings. It appears to be so rare, Yu Xiao Gang thought the premium herb was extinct. Tang San had thought about giving Fei Lan De and Liu Er Long a gift, too, but not knowing what kind of herb suited them best, Tang San hands the whole sack of the premium herbs to Fei Lan De to pick one out for himself with the rest going towards earning the 2000 Gold Soul Coins to pay off the debt so the school can register to enter the Soul Master School Contest.
With Tang San in possession of so many premium herbs and explaining them to be a thank you gift from Du Gu Bo for curing his poison, it sees Yu Xiao Gang questioning whether that’s really the story behind the premium herbs. For one, Yu Xiao Gang find it hard to believe Du Gu Bo would have so many premium herbs to give; and second even if he did, it wasn’t in his character to give them all to him.
Fei Lan De already out of the room, Tang San catches Yu Xiao Gang up with having been brought to Dream Valle and entering the interspace his mother created for him and how the herbs were collected from there. Talk about the interspace sees Yu Xiao Gang remark how only a few Grand Soul Land Masters can create the interspace. It leads Tang San to wonder whether his mother was a Grand Soul Land Master. It’s something which Yu Xiao Gang couldn’t confirm, but suggest Tang San might be able to find out in the Martial Soul Hall library. There weren’t many Grand Soul Masters to begin with Yu Xiao Gang tells Tang San. There are even fewer young female Grand Soul Land Masters. He notes that it’s actually quite rare.
The mention of Martial Soul Hall sees Tang San talk about revenge against them as he reveals to Yu Xiao Gang that Qian Xun Ji and his men from Martial Soul Hall are the ones behind his mother’s death. Yu Xiao Gang mentioning that Qian Xun Ji had already died from severe injuries, Tang San appeared to move to go after his family which sees Yu Xiao Gang reveal to him that Bi Bi Dong was his wife and Qian Ren Xue was his daughter. Yu Xiao Gang has Tang San know that Bi Bi Dong and Qian Ren Xue have nothing to do with his mother’s death as well. This fact helps little to remove them from Tang San’s revengeful sights as he angrily notes how Qian Xun Ji showed no consideration towards him or his father when he killed his mother, suggesting he shouldn’t need consider the fact Bi Bi Dong and Qian Ren Xue had nothing to do with the death.
Although Tang San appears unable to separate them from Qian Xun Ji, his following words about not being able to guarantee rational actions when they’re before him suggest he knows he shouldn’t place blame on them. This sees Yu Xiao Gang speak words which reminds Tang San of his mother’s wish. Hatred shouldn’t be spread onto everyone from Martial Soul Hall Yu Xiao Gang tells him. It’s something which he believes his mother wouldn’t want him to keep in his heart.
Episode 29
After learning about his mother and reducing his grudge to only those who had threatened his mother and not the entire Martial Soul Hall, Tang San pleads Yu Xiao Gang to tell him about his father. Yu Xiao Gang had been reluctant, worried it’ll only cause Tang San suffering. But with Tang San assuring Yu Xiao Gang he’s ready to hear about his father and telling Yu Xiao Gang that only when he embraces his suffering and pain can he understand himself and change (words which Yu Xiao Gang himself told Tang San), Yu Xiao Gang proceeds.
Yu Xiao Gang reveals Tang San’s father, Tang Hao, to have once been Qian Xun Ji’s right-hand man. Yu Xiao Gang doesn’t specifically mention why Tang San’s father had left Martial Soul Hall, but it’s presumed to be matters relating to Tang San’s mother. Tang Hao’s departure saw Qian Xun Ji chased him down and defeat. After this defeat, Tang Hao disappeared and was not heard about again.
Yu Xiao Gang moves onto mentioning himself as having joined Martial Soul Hall as a core researcher on Mutant Martial Souls after the Golden Iron Triangle disbanded and while Tang San’s father was still serving under Qian Xun Ji. This fact plus the fact that his father was Qian Xun Ji’s right-hand man sees Tang San now believe without a doubt that his father is the mastermind behind the Mutant Soul case (e.g. the Nightfire incident) and Ye Zhi Qui. As someone who once worked for Martial Soul Hall whilst the research on Mutant Martial Soul was still active (after Yu Xiao Gang left Martial Soul Hall sometime after Tang Hao had left, the research was terminated), it supports this conclusion. His father knew about the drug research and had access to it, and because Martial Soul Hall killed his mother, Tang San’s father also had the motive to act against Martial Soul Hall.
Yu Xiao Gang supplies that he had initially suspected that maybe the mastermind in the Mutant Soul case and Ye Zhi Qiu was Martial Soul Hall. However, after discovering that Hu Lie Na was investigating the Mutated Martial Soul, his suspicions that Martial Soul Hall were dispelled. The reference for Yu Xiao Gang releasing Martial Soul Hall from being the mastermind behind the Mutant Soul case appear to be in Episode 12 where she had offered Ma Hong Jun whatever the price for the special medicine which transformed Martial Souls. If Martial Soul Hall was behind it, Hu Lie Na wouldn’t have made such offer or have been so curious to see the rare Evil Phoenix.
Tang San asked what his plans are following his conclusion, he tells Yu Xiao Gang the decision he had already made when he was in Xi Si City. He was going to stop his father. Tang San won’t forget the grudge he has against Martial Soul Hall, but he can’t allow the innocent to get involved. An uprising carried out by every Mutant Soul Master on Douluo Continent would be disastrous he had said. And so, Tang San wants to wake his father and have him see that not all of Martial Soul Hall is their enemy.
Hearing this, Yu Xiao Gang gives his full support, offering to fight with Tang San till he makes it to the final so the entire Douluo Continent can witness Tang San’s excellence. Tang San’s not one to take any victory alone. He corrects Yu Xiao Gang that their victory will see Douluo Continent witness the excellence of Shi Lan Ke School.
Shi Lan Ke School making it to the finals is looking to be in doubt when the school is finding registration into the Soul Master School Contest a bit of an obstacle. Liu Er Long’s attempt to sell the premium herbs Tang San and Xiao Wu brought back from the interspace in Dream Valley sees the get buyers, but they will only complete the transaction two days later. This is a day too late for registration as the last day for registration is in just one more day.
This outcome is deliberate. It was planned by Prince Xue Xing to prevent Shi Lan Ke School from entering the contest. Fei Lan De makes the suggestion of seeing Xue Qing He about the matter. But unknown to them still, the Tian Dou Crown Prince is still under Hu Lie Na’s control. Because of this, Xue Qing He (or rather Hu Lie Na as Xue Qing He) has been refusing to meet with anyone, so their chances are considered low.
The plan to see Xue Qing He, however low the chances are, gets interrupted when Ning Rong Rong suddenly gets captured by someone in her own Qibao Amber Clan not long after making this decision. Fei Lan De had tried going after Ning Rong Rong, but was stopped by a Tool Soul whose form is a sword and more powerful than Fei Lan De. He didn’t dare to move an inch with the sword pointed at his head.
So, instead of setting off towards Xue Qing He, Fei Lan De had Yu Xiao Gang and Liu Er Long set off towards one of the branches of Qibao Amber Clan in Tian Dou City to inform them about Ning Rong Rong’s capture. He had hoped they’d help them in their search, not knowing the ones behind her capture is actually those Yu Xiao Gang and Liu Er Long was about to inform.
Dragged off to the side of a street somewhere, Ning Rong Rong is shown her captor to be her own grandpa, later revealed to be a Grand Soul Land Master with Nine Soul Rings, the Sword Grand Soul Land Master (Zhou Xiao Chuan). Made to return to the palace, her father, Ning Feng Zhi, is revealed to be the one behind the order to bring her back to the palace. His reason for bringing her back to the palace is that an unknown person or entity has hired the Sword Grand Soul Land Master to sabotage the finalist in the Soul Master School Contest and Ning Feng Zhi doesn’t want his daughter to participate in the contest. In fact, Ning Feng Zhi reveals the reason he had Ning Rong Rong attend Shi Lan Ke School was because he wanted her to avoid participating in the Soul Master School Contest. It seems he thought with Shi Lan Ke School was the best place to send her with it not being recognised as a school who can hope to participate, yet here the school was in Tian Dou City looking to participate.
Ning Rong Rong wanting to know who was behind the sabotage and who the target is, her father isn’t able to provide an answer on either. He was only able to provide that the target will only be divulged during the final. This has Ning Rong Rong question her father why they would get involved with any of it when he knows nothing about it.
It’s because of the reward of mutating Ning Rong Rong’s Martial Soul from Qibao Amber Pagoda to Jiubao Amber Pagoda. Unknown to Ning Feng Zhi, it’s a transformation which has already happened thanks to Tang San and the premium herb he gave her.
Just before Ning Rong Rong was captured, she had brought out her Martial Soul after talking about using a speed boost to get them out of a situation which might see them being caught spying on Xiao Wu’s attempt to kiss Tang San.
This idea to kiss Tang San came about after Ning Rong Rong and Zhu Zhu Qing had noticed Xiao Wu being quiet and not really there when Ning Rong Rong and Zhu Zhu Qing asked Xiao Wu whether she was going to join them in eating the premium herb they received from Tang San. Zhu Zhu Qing questioning Xiao Wu whether something was wrong, Xiao Wu expressed being upset over Du Gu Yan’s joke as well as being confused about her own reaction to the joke. It saw Ning Rong Rong express a knowing smile and tell Xiao Wu it’s because she likes Tang San. Xiao Wu maintains the feelings she has is ones she has for a brother, but Ning Rong Rong and seemingly Zhu Zhu Qing as well thinks it’s the romantic kind. To verify, though, Ning Rong Rong suggested Xiao Wu kiss Tang San to work out the exact kind of feelings she has for Tang San.
Xiao Wu off attempting to kiss Tang San while watching him cast weapons, Ning Rong Rong found herself being mighty curious about whether Xiao Wu succeeded. She was seen pacing and wanting to know so much she suggested she and Zhu Zhu Qing go check on Xiao Wu’s progress. Zhu Zhu Qing finding it inappropriate, Ning Rong Rong tried to convince Zhu Zhu Qing to go by saying that they could always use a Speed boost to get out of there if they happened to get caught. Zhu Zhu Qing eventually moves to follow after Ning Rong Rong who ends up going herself, but before then, Ning Rong Rong had brought out her Martial Soul.
The sight saw Ning Rong Rong notice something was different about her Qibao Amber Pagoda, but she couldn’t pinpoint exactly what the difference was at the time. Now, though, standing before her father and being told that her Qibao Amber Pagoda’s seven levels isn’t the ultimate number of levels it can have, she finally sees it was the two additional levels gained on her Martial Soul that was the difference.
It leads Ning Feng Zhi to settle Shi Lan Ke School’s debt, thwarting Xue Xing’s second attempt to block Shi Lan Ke School’s entry into the Soul Master School Contest. Sometime after Ning Rong Rong was discovered to have been captured, Fei Lan De received information about an auction which they could sell the premium and rare herbs and had obtained the permit for collecting the money. When time came to receive bids for the premium and rare herbs, though, not a single bid was made thanks to Xue Xing’s control over the bidding of their goods.
With this control, Xue Xing moved to try force Tang San and Xiao Wu to join Tian Dou Imperial School. Through a messenger, Tang San and Xiao Wu are told that Xue Xing will allow them to join the Soul Master School Contest provided they leave Shi Lan Ke School and become part of Tian Dou Imperial School. As Tang San had said before, he had no intention of doing such thing just to get into the contest.
The auction was looking like yet another failed path towards getting that debt paid off and Xue Xing had once again succeeded in blocking them. But during the last call to place bids, Ning Feng Zhi appears to bid 2,500 Gold Soul Coins for the premium herbs.
It’s not only Ning Rong Rong who has advanced in some way. Dai Mu Bai, Ou Si Ke, Ma Hong Jun and Zhu Zhu Qing have all reached full Soul Power. This follows Xiao Wu and Tang San who was heard to have reached full Soul Power last episode and was ready to advance to Quadruple Soul Soul Rings. Yu Xiao Gang, even, he’s broken through his Double Soul Rings to advance to Triple Soul Rings.
On the Du Gu Bo front, he’s fully cured because of Tang San’s Octa Dark Frost. Keeping his promise to Tang San to help Shi Lan Ke School get into the contest, Du Gu Bo offers to take out all his competitors so the school can head straight into the finals. It’s not the kind of help Tang San meant even he asked Du Gu Bo for help. All Tang San wanted was for Du Gu Bo to secretly protect them if there happens to be anyone looking to harm them secretly. He wants a fair contest and will fight till the end to get there.
Another thing Du Gu Bo thought Tang San might like is to accompany him Cang Hui. Du Gu Bo was planning on taking revenge on them for poisoning him and his granddaughter. It sees Tang San request a favour instead. Wanting to find out how Cang Hui will deal with Du Gu Bo whilst under the impression he is still poisoned, Tang San requests Du Gu Bo put on his jade pendant (which he’s since removed since he no longer requires it to warn him of the toxin’s instability within) and act like he’s still needing a cure. With Tang San unable to see his father to ask about his exact motives, he hopes Du Gu Bo could cooperate so he could find out Cang Hui’s plans and avoid Cang Hui coming up with new tricks. It’s a request which Du Gu Bo agrees.
Finally, Shi Lan Ke School has the chance of entering the Soul Master School Contest and with a stronger team than when they first arrived in Tian Dou City and an ally in the form of Du Gu Bo. However, whether the Seven Devils of Shi Lan Ke will see Ning Rong Rong rejoin them is yet to be seen. Although Ning Feng Zhi had gone and provided a way for Shi Lan Ke School to pay off that debt required before they’re allowed to register, Ning Rong Rong hasn’t been let out to return to Shi Lan Ke School. She’s been locked in her room with her grandfather and his men guarding at the courtyard gate.
It’s Ou Si Ke who finds his way to her clan and discovers that she’s been held in said room. Arriving at the gate, Ou Si Ke had come requesting the Sword Grand Soul Land Master’s help. Not knowing he was already before Ning Rong Rong’s “captor”, he wanted help providing a list of Qibao Amber Clan rivals and enemies in hopes to take his search to those places to look for Ning Rong Rong. Because the Sword Grand Soul Land Master is the “captor”, Ou Si Ke receive no help of any kind. He’s sent away instead.
Ou Si Ke persisting, he refuses to leave and that’s when he sees fireworks in the sky. It was Ning Rong Rong using one of his props to try get attention that she’s been locked in her room.
Forcing his way through, Ou Si Ke reaches the room and is even able to break off the large lock on the door to break her out. However, he fails to get pass Ning Rong Rong’s grandfather who arrives and effortlessly beats him repeatedly with his Tool Soul. Uncharacteristically, before he’s suffered any serious injury he calls surrender, saying that he won’t be saving Ning Rong Rong anymore. No. He will instead join the clan.
Episode 30
Ou Si Ke had no intention of surrendering or joining the Qibao Amber Clan. It was only an excuse to stop being beaten with his sword and give him the opportunity to bring out his Rocketing Kiwi to fly Ning Rong Rong out of there. According to Ning Feng Zhi, the Sword Grand Soul Land Master was capable of going after Ning Rong Rong despite Ou Si Ke’s flying ability, but the Sword Grand Soul Land Master had deliberately let Ning Rong Rong return with Ou Si Ke.
Ning Feng Zhi ends up leaving Ning Rong Rong be. Convinced by Jian Doulou to let Ning Rong Rong go on her own journey, not let difficulties and challenges stand in her way so that she can shine (sort of in the same way as how Ning Feng Zhi became Chief of Qibao Amber Clan), Ning Feng Zhi ended up letting her remain at Shi Lan Ke School.
Everyone back at Shi Lan Ke School, Lanba School’s debt paid and Shi Lan Ke School registered to take part in the Soul Master School Contest, Yu Xiao Gang and Fei Lan De have the Seven Devils of Shi Lan Ke head off to Sunset Forest to hunt for Soul Beasts to level up to prepare themselves for their first match against the Tian Dou Imperial School’s second team. It’s a match which Xue Xing had purposely arranged for Tai Long (Sven Yu) and his team to take out. Xue Xing’s wanting to kick Shi Lan Ke School out of the contest in the opening match. The information which Xue Xing provides Tai Long about the Shi Lan Ke School team is set to be outdated with everyone on the team except Xiao Wu about to advance to Quadruple Soul Rings.
With Sunset Forest containing relatively fewer Soul Beasts, Yu Xiao Gang has everyone split up in groups to begin their search for suitable Soul Beasts. Originally the group had been split into three with Fei Lan De leading Dai Mu Bai, Zhu Zhu Qing and Ma Hong Jun; Liu Er Long leading Ou Si Ke and Ning Rong Rong; and Yu Xiao Gang leading Tang San and Xiao Wu. However, with Liu Er Long claiming not knowing the way and not happy with Yu Xiao Gang’s offer to have Luo San Pao guiding the way, she was able to push Ou Si Ke and Ning Rong Rong into Fei Lan De’s team while she joined Yu Xiao Gang, Tang San and Xiao Wu.
The hunt sees a bit of focus on Liu Er Long and her high damage purple flame Soul Skill, the Scarlet Flame Dragon, before Tang San comes across a second Human Faced Demon Spider suitable to be his fourth Soul Ring, but it’s not that spider he absorbs but one which is much beyond his capabilities.
Encountering a giant caterpillar-like Soul Beast, Liu Er Long gets slammed hard into a tree after her purple energy force does little to defeat the caterpillar. It sees Tang San wanting to go help Liu Er Long, but he’s stopped by Yu Xiao Gang as he suggests Tang San watch her. This worm was actually no match for her.
Liu Er Long bringing out her Scarlet Flame Dragon and a few strikes later, the caterpillar is laying dead on the forest floor after it gets engulfed by her high-heat, high-damage glowing blue flames.
Powerful as the attack is, a downside is the flames burns off her clothes every time she uses it. After the battle with the giant caterpillar, Liu Er Long had Yu Xiao Gang, of all people, help bring over the sack of clothes she carries with her so she could get dressed again.
The reason she had Yu Xiao Gang bring her the clothes is because he’s already helped her get dressed once before—albeit without her knowing until she regained consciousness after a battle during their Golden Iron Triangle days. It’s an incident which Yu Xiao Gang had told Tang San and an incident which Yu Xiao Gang admits to not having thought over too well. Tang San had pointed out that he could have covered her up with something and let her get dressed once she woke up. It’s a point which Yu Xiao Gang now sees, but at the time, he explains, that he was so flustered he didn’t think of it.
Meanwhile, for Liu Er Long the incident was when she decided to marry Yu Xiao Gang. It was either that or beat him up, which she says wasn’t an option since he was helping her. It’s unclear whether she was just joking, but it had her express a sad bitterness that Yu Xiao Gang had chosen Bi Bi Dong in the end.
With Liu Er Long still conscious this time, though, she’s able to maintain her Martial Soul to keep herself covered until she gets behind since trees to get changed with Xiao Wu bringing her the clothes rather than Yu Xiao Gang. He had suggested Xiao Wu go in his place, and with her going, she saves Yu Xiao Gang from the uncomfortable task.
Liu Er Long dressed, she and Xiao Wu return to join Yu Xiao Gang and Tang San in chasing down a Human Faced Demon Spider which had passed by both Fei Lan De and his group as well as Yu Xiao Gang and Tang San. With Tang San having killed a Human Faced Demon Spider before, it should target him but it kept running till it appeared to disappear from them.
The Human Faced Demon Spider wasn’t so much running away but leading them to a giant spider known as the Pit Demon Spider which appeared from below the earth. Throwing out its non-poisonous but very strong web cage, the Pit Demon Spider traps Yu Xiao Gang and Liu Er Long. Tang San and Xiao Wu are told to make a run for it while Liu Er Long work on breaking out of the cage.
The Pit Demon Spider leaves Yu Xiao Gang and Liu Er Long to give chase after Tang San and Xiao Wu. In an attempt to bound the gigantic spider, Tang San flings Xiao Wu behind him before sending in his Blue Silver Plant at the Pit Demon Spider. It restrains the spider for a few moments, but it soon breaks free to launch high over Tang San to attack from the top. It never manages as Xiao Wu comes in with an impressively strong kick, sending the Pit Demon Spider flying off to the side.
Barely back on her feet, Xiao Wu is blindsided by a powerful hit in the from the Human Faced Demon Spider on her right. Xiao Wu suffers no wound, only pain. Fortunately, the stab had hit her where the Lovesick Heartbroken Scarlet was and it had saved her from suffering a serious injury.
With Tang San not knowing this until after the fact, though, he charges at the Human Faced Demon Spider and stabs it well with one of the arachnid legs that erupts from his back. He drills it in there, making sure it felt the stab.
It’s not until Yu Xiao Gang (who finally escapes after Liu Er Long managed to break through the cage from the top) rushes in to check on Xiao Wu and tells Tang San she was fine does Tang San withdraw the Soul Bones.
With the Human Faced Demon Spider dead, its Soul Ring appears for Tang San to absorb. He doesn’t immediately go to absorb it, though. Liu Er Long had shown up on top of the Pit Demon Spider on its last legs and he was considering making the Pit Demon Spider his fourth Soul Ring.
(Earlier, while Tang San was focused on drilling an arachnid leg into the Human Faced Demon Spider, the Pit Demon Spider had looked to attack Tang San from behind, but was stopped by Liu Er Long who had sent it flying with a kick before defeating it.)
The Pit Demon Spider being 10,000 years old, it’s beyond Tang San’s capability to absorb, but with his mother’s gift of the Ice Fire Mouth Spring which allows him to absorb a Soul Beast much beyond his limit, he had hoped he will come through it. Yu Xiao Gang had expressed his concerns over the risk and the danger to him while Xiao Wu showed it through her expression, but seemingly trusting in this special gift from Tang San’s mother, they stand aside to allow Tang San to make the final kill to absorb the the electric blue Soul Ring with black smoke.
By the time Shi Lan Ke School is required in the arena of the Soul Master School Contest, Tang San is still in his mother’s interspace trying to absorb the Decade Millennium Soul Ring of the Pit Demon Spider. With him is Xiao Wu watching over him. So, neither Tang San nor Xiao Wu are at the arena by the time the contest opens.
Two of Shi Lan Ke School’s Power Attack Soul Masters, Dai Mu Bai and Ma Hong Jun, are also absent from the arena. They’ve yet to awaken when Yu Xiao Gang and Liu Er Long returned to rejoin Fei Lan De and his group. During their hunt, they both went and absorbed Soul Beasts very close to their limits. Ma Hong Jun was able to advance twice thanks to Tang San’s premium herb: after advancing to Triple Soul Rings, Ma Hong Jun was still at Full Soul Power which allowed him to absorb another Soul Beast to advance again.
It leaves only the Support Branch Soul Masters, Ou Si Ke and Ning Rong Rong, plus Zhu Zhu Qing present when the contest starts—all Quadruple Soul Rings with Zhu Zhu Qing advancing twice because of the same reason as Ma Hong Jun. Zhu Zhu Qing had put up her hand up to fight in the one-on-one tag match which will see winners stay until all their opponent are defeated with the last one standing being the winner.
Unexpectedly, though, it’s not Zhu Zhu Qing who heads into the arena first. It’s Ou Si Ke. He had stepped up on his own to take on the first opponent of the Tian Dou Imperial School’s Second Team and is the one to give Shi Lan Ke School their first victory. His opponent letting him make the first attack, Ou Si Ke combines a fogging and electrocuting tactic with his Rocketing Kiwi to defeat his opponent, all without suffering an attack from him.
Using his cloud-and-electric-current-producing metal rod, Ou Si Ke fogs up the area surrounding him. It’s a slow process, one which has his opponent, a Triple Soul Rings Soul Master with a scorpion as his Martial Soul, actually tolerate and wait. The opponent waits long enough for Ou Si Ke to disappear on him and have this fog produce a light sprinkling of rain onto the opponent which would serve to increase damage to the opponent.
As Ou Si Ke later explains, the damage from the electric current on a Soul Master with Triple Soul Rings who’s dry is insufficient to defeat him. When dry the damage is at surface level. They might just suffer burns. When wet though, the internal injury is significant. How Ou Si Ke know this? He’s had personal experience!
With the fog clearing, Ou Si Ke (who appears as if he’s frozen with a layer of icicles all over his face and body) doesn’t make a move. He allows his opponent to shoot at him a couple times before Ou Si Ke drops back to the arena, stopping just inches above the floor. Remaining still as if frozen stiff, Ou Si Ke waits for his opponent to approach him before he comes back to life to force the opponent back towards the edge of the arena. Just as his opponent attempts to strike, Ou Si Ke has his rod send through an electric current which electrocutes him, allowing Ou Si Ke to simply push him out of the arena with just a finger, winning the first match.
The victory sees Ning Feng Zhi and the Sword Grand Soul Land Master impressed. Ning Feng Zhi is so impressed with Ou Si Ke’s tactics that he was thinking of inviting Ou Si Ke into their clan so they can train him properly. But seeing Ou Si Ke helped back by Ning Rong Rong after he withdrew himself from taking on the second opponent (he’s actually hurt, but the ice hid the appearance of such), Ning Feng Zhi retracted his words.
Shi Nian is amongst the audience, too, watching with great interest. After Shi Nian remarks finding Shi Lan Ke School interesting because of the fact that even Support Branch Soul Masters can fight, he reveals his interest in today’s matches to be to confirm whether Tang San and his team will be strong enough to be his pawns. He seems confident that at least he has control of Tang San as he reveals not having paid attention to Tang San ever since he visited Cang Hui.
In another part of the arena, Xue Xing watches on, looking to bribe and threaten the referee to get him on his side. This referee is not someone Xue Xing can bribe or threaten easily, though, as he learns it’s the Chrysanthemum Grand Soul Land Master from Martial Soul Hall. The Grand Soul Land Master appearing before Xue Xing and confronted about Xue Xing’s intention to threaten him sees the term “threaten” change to “winning over”.
The Chrysanthemum Grand Soul Land Master isn’t against helping Xue Xing. Xue Xing is told that he can help with defeating (what appears to be) Xue Xing’s main target, Xue Qing He, and win the right to rule over the empire. What comes with the offer is the suggestion of conditions yet to be specified. Xue Xing wasn’t about to agree to any conditions and be (as Xue Xing guesses) Martial Soul Hall’s puppet.
