In Episode 3, He Jie has a sudden realisation towards the reason he entered into the world of his manga. Because of how he defined the characters of his manga, he realises they have their individual problems and his presence may be to help each of them obtain happiness and bring them to live in a way where they can be their true selves.
Lu Zi Xing continues to be bullied by Pei En Cai’s two friends who, after the shower incident, comes into the Clay Sculpture classroom and knocks over a shelf to see how Lu Zi Xing will explain the damage to the principal.
Lu Zi Xing finds He Jie at the door behind her after the girls leave to bring the principal over. He stands there wondering how he can stop the bullying that Lu Zi Xing has been experiencing a lot recently. He thinks leaving the school temporarily might be good for Lu Zi Xing. This thought He Jie has going through his mind is something Lu Zi Xing can feel He Jie is thinking. She doesn’t indicate she will, though. She just uses this moment to sincerely thank He Jie for helping her in the shower incident.
By the time Pei En Cai’s friends return with the principal accompanied by Ji Rui and two other students in tow, Lu Zi Xing has come up with a way to bring attention away from the damage of the shelf with self-inflicting a nasty cut on her kneecap with a broken piece of pottery. Lu Zi Xing apologises to the principal for the damaged shelf and asks her principal to believe her when she says it isn’t her fault.
Lu Zi Xing:
“Sorry, Principal. The three of us got into a small disagreement. They pushed the shelf over. Please believe me.”
With this, Pei En Cai’s two friends fail to get Lu Zi Xing into trouble. Ji Rui helps Lu Zi Xing to the school clinic and the matter is passed for Lu Zi Xing.
This incident has an unexpected effect on the relationship between Pei En Cai and Gong Cheng. He Jie explains Gong Cheng misunderstood Pei En Cai to be behind the bullying because of the comments he heard from other students outside the school clinic where the school doctor, Su Zi Xu (Zhong Jin Ming), treated Lu Zi Xing’s cut. It’s another moment He Jie says brought a change in the plot which differed from the one in his manga.
He Jie:
“It’s precisely because Gong Cheng coincidentally saw this scene, a change happened in the story plot. Hearing everyone’s comments, he misunderstood Lu Zi Xing to have honestly been subjected to Pei En Cai’s bullying and humiliation. Having a talk with Ah Cai, he and Ah Cai had a huge fight and they parted on bad terms. Pei En Cai became the malicious female supporting character in Gong Cheng’s mind.”
He Jie tries to mend the relationship between Pei En Cai and Gong Cheng after Luo Ji tells him he still cannot leave the world of his manga because the story hasn’t ended yet. He chooses to use the plot in his manga where Gong Cheng rescues Pei En Cai after she falls into a swimming pool. It’s a plot He Jie says will have the misunderstanding gone between Pei En Cai and Gong Cheng because Gong Cheng coming to her rescue will have Pei En Cai secretly give her heart to him.
He Jie comes up with making the poolside floor in the school natatorium extra slippery with rubbing soap into the water already there for Pei En Cai to slip and fall into the water for Gong Cheng to rescue her.
He Jie:
“I’ve gone this far. If things don’t go as expected again, I will really have to lose to Lu Zi Xing.”
He Jie’s plan doesn’t go according to how he expects it to go. He drives Gong Cheng and Pei En Cai further apart when he hadn’t predicted Lu Zi Xing to rescue Pei En Cai. It leads to Pei En Cai seeing it as another one of Lu Zi Xing’s schemes to harm her. Meanwhile, Gong Cheng yet again finds Lu Zi Xing to be a victim of Pei En Cai’s bullying.
This unexpected outcome comes about from He Jie having not noticed Lu Zi Xing in the natatorium mopping up water at the poolside when he went in to carry out his plan. She disappeared into an area out of He Jie’s view after she found him acting suspiciously. Lu Zi Xing then reappeared after He Jie finished making the floor slippery. At this time, Pei En Cai came in with Ji Rui and those two friends who has been bringing trouble to Lu Zi Xing. Ji Rui told Lu Zi Xing they’ve come to teach Pei En Cai to swim and she invited Lu Zi Xing to join. Pei En Cai and her other two friends not interested in having Lu Zi Xing join them walked past. Walking past, Pei En Cai stepped on the slippery floor He Jie especially made for her to slip on. Pei En Cai fell into the pool. Gong Cheng appeared; however, he came in slightly after Lu Zi Xing jumped in to rescue Pei En Cai. Gong Cheng watched Lu Zi Xing bring Pei En Cai back to safety at the poolside. He heard Pei En Cai come at Lu Zi Xing with ungrateful words saying she was purposely harming her again and does not have any kindness in her person because she is someone with many faces when Ji Rui came to Lu Zi Xing’s defense with saying Lu Zi Xing had actually rescued her. Gong Cheng stepped in. He said to Pei En Cai he hated people bullying others when Pei En Cai asked why he was getting into her business.
He Jie:
“Gong Cheng, you’re saving the wrong person. The person you’re supposed to save is Pei En Cai not Lu Zi Xing.”
After Pei En Cai spoke for them both to keep out of each other’s affairs from now on, Gong Cheng left with Lu Zi Xing.
He Jie loses his job as Crystal College’s janitor after security footage showed him purposely creating the hazardous floor for Pei En Cai to walk on. He moves onto trying out for the position of Gong Cheng’s assistant. With this job, it will allow him to pay off the loan he owed Luo Ji. More importantly, this job will help him bring Gong Cheng and Pei En Cai to be together and stop Lu Zi Xing from making that confession leading her to her miserable fate.
In the manga, Lu Zi Xing succeeded in becoming Gong Cheng’s assistant and therefore allowed her the opportunity to get closer to Gong Cheng. It’s a pivotal plot point in He Jie’s manga. He Jie successfully stops this pivotal plot point in his manga from taking place when he beats Lu Zi Xing in the final exam which consisted of a paper exam, a test on service skills and a test on adaptability and resourcefulness.
He Jie becomes Gong Cheng’s Executive Assistant and he begins work immediately. After the end of his first day at work, an opportunity for He Jie to get Gong Cheng and Pei En Cai back to better terms with each other arrives when the elevator to Gong Cheng’s office opens up to reveal Pei En Cai in there. She’s come to apologise to Gong Cheng because she’s not allowed to go home until she apologises to Gong Cheng for their fight. Pei En Cai was informed of this fact by Su Zi Xu—a childhood friend of Pei En Cai’s and someone who likes her. He Jie forces Gong Cheng into the elevator when neither Gong Cheng nor Pei En Cai make a move to speak to each other. He closes the elevator door and uses his magical pen to make the elevator stall.
Pei En Cai:
“The elevator is descending. Gong Cheng, will the elevator drop? Will we die in here? What do we do?”
The extreme fear Pei En Cai shows with her eyes tightly squeezed shut and a tight grip on his arm, Gong Cheng brings Pei En Cai into his arms and hugs her reassuringly.
Gong Cheng:
“Don’t be afraid. I’m here. It’s okay.
Meanwhile, He Jie is pleased with himself as he heads out of the office. He finds Lu Zi Xing waiting for him. She’s come for his reason for getting in the way of her getting the position as Gong Cheng’s assistant.
Lu Zi Xing:
“I really thought you came to protect me, worry about me and look after me. Why did you instead sabotage me from being Gong Cheng’s assistant? Do you know that, to me, this job was my mum’s medical fees, my school fees, and living expenses for my family? Why did you do what you did?”
He Jie struggles to find a reason until his eyes come upon the bouquet of roses in his hands. It was a gift from a female employee to Gong Cheng that Gong Cheng said to throw out. He Jie gives it to Lu Zi Xing.
He Jie:
“Because I like you! That’s right. I don’t want to bring any despair to you. I can’t tolerate you constantly being friendly with another guy, so I prevented you from getting close to Gong Cheng and matched Gong Cheng with Pei En Cai.”
The confession brought Lu Zi Xing to recall the many kind gestures that she received from He Jie in the past. She scuttles away after He Jie scares her with a lean in towards her, in a position ready to kiss her.
The next day He Jie heads to Gong Cheng’s family residence to begin work. Gong Cheng’s family residence is a magnificent castle which He Jie had drawn many times, stroke by stroke, as a kid. It’s a castle He Jie had dreamed of living in when he was a kid. He Jie gets that opportunity to live in this castle. He is informed he will reside in Gong Cheng’s family residence to take care of Gong Cheng around the clock.
This next day of work, He Jie realises Gong Cheng’s schedule is beyond what’s typical for a student. Gong Cheng has the usual task of looking over a pile of documents and signing them. He has company meetings and three appointments that his mother and father arranged. Gong Cheng’s day started at seven and the last appointment has him going till nine at night.
During a tiring afternoon meeting watching Gong Cheng listening to an advertising agency head and an IT head bickering over an integration proposal, He Jie decides to get Gong Cheng away from the meeting when he spotted the expression of annoyance on his face. He Jie inconspicuously asks Gong Cheng to close his eyes for the next five minutes and says for him to not react to anything. Once Gong Cheng shut his eyes, He Jie gets Gong Cheng away with saying he has fainted and his breathing is weak. He makes sure no one follows with saying too many people around will make things worse. After this, Gong Cheng has an afternoon and evening idling around, enjoying some fast food by the waterfront.
He Jie asks Gong Cheng if he found meetings like the one they left in the afternoon to be silly. Gong Cheng does find them silly.
He Jie:
“Since it has no meaning, why force yourself? In life, there are many, many people and things worth stopping temporarily for and taking the time to enjoy. Life can’t remain the same. Even if it’s full of mishaps, they are pleasant surprises.”
Gong Cheng expresses amazement with He Jie’s ability to see he was forcing himself to take on obligations he had as the CEO of Gong Group.
Gong Cheng:
“You’ve only been with me for two days and you already know I’m forcing myself.”
He Jie:
“Your outward appearance makes you look like an unreasonable CEO. However, I know you’re actually very pure on the inside. Your every emotion is written on your face. One look and I can see it.”
“In the future, your itinerary will be arranged by me.”
After this talk with Gong Cheng, He Jie realises each of his characters have their individual problems and his presence may be to help them obtain happiness and be their true selves.
He Jie:
“When I first entered this world, I only kept thinking about how I must quickly complete the mission and head back to reality. But as I blended in with the people of this world, I realised that every one of them, because of what I originally set for them, they have different problems. Perhaps my coming here is to help them reach happiness and bliss. They should be living out their true selves.”
The next day at school, He Jie informs Gong Cheng he will be spending time at school more (because Gong Cheng is a student) to learn and study about the things he loves doing (painting) and to make friends with people who are the same age as him. He Jie comes to give advice to Gong Cheng about how he should approach his love life when they come across Gong Cheng’s desk filled with love letters.
He Jie:
“You must not let these flowers disturb your life. You must wait for the most suitable for you to appear before you do anything. For example, the type that’s attentive, thoughtful, have a gentle beauty, is kind-hearted, generous and cute. Also, someone who has hair that is long and flowing.”
He Jie asks Gong Cheng if he’s come across one. Gong Cheng answers he hasn’t. He Jie tells Gong Cheng to not worry. Whatever is fate will come.
Comments
There wasn’t a whole lot of what we would say significant events in this episode. It’s still just getting us familiar with the characters, but this episode did still feel like it moved along speedily with He Jie jumping from one place to the next.
So far, we like He Jie, Gong Cheng and Lu Zi Xing. These three characters are interesting and likable. Pei En Cai, though, there’s not really much about her that stands out and make her an interesting character. We’re quite indifferent towards her. Because we’re indifferent to Pei En Cai, we’re not entirely onboard with the Gong Cheng and Pei En Cai pairing when we like Lu Zi Xing more as the one next to Gong Cheng. We do like Lu Zi Xing and He Jie as well, though. We’d pretty much like a love triangle to develop between Lu Zi Xing, He Jie, and Gong Cheng, but we know this isn’t going to be the direction.
There was a brief scene showing Lu Zi Xing with the publisher in this episode. He wasn’t really impressed with those scruffy manga pages that was torn that He Jie helped piece back together (Episode 2). The publisher criticised Lu Zi Xing for being outdated because she didn’t have a digital version and wasn’t empathetic towards her difficult circumstances that prevented her from being able to produce a digital version. He didn’t care that she couldn’t produce a digital version because she didn’t have a drawing tablet. We’re thinking this is the area that will help He Jie complete his mission and allow him to return to his world.
With this interest in manga drawing that Lu Zi Xing shows to have, it makes us wonder why He Jie chose to give Lu Zi Xing the same interest in manga drawing as he has in it. He Jie gave Gong Cheng his dream home. With Lu Zi Xing, He Jie chose to give her his passion. It’s interesting thinking that He Jie gave Lu Zi Xing his passion when she is the character in his manga that he despises the most.
