In this episode, He Jie realises he needs to reconsider how he goes about his mission to change Lu Zi Xing’s miserable fate because whatever Lu Zi Xing feels, he feels. This comes after He Jie brings Lu Zi Xing to experience a humiliating public show of her trapping Pei En Cai in a room so she could get the opportunity to approach Gong Cheng.
Things hadn’t ended up going the way He Jie had hoped at the masked ball. He managed to have Pei En Cai be the one to dance with Gong Cheng, initially. However, when Pei En Cai left Gong Cheng for a handful of minutes to touch up her makeup, it gave Lu Zi Xing the chance to substitute herself in. She blocked the door with a cleaning equipment to keep Pei En Cai in. With her ball dress being the exact same one Pei En Cai wore and Pei En Cai dropping her mask on the floor for her to pick up, Lu Zi Xing went to Gong Cheng and brought him to believe she was the one he had been dancing with before. Lu Zi Xing made sure Gong Cheng saw her as the dancing partner he danced with by taking her mask off and revealing her identity; then, to make him believe she was that person he was dancing with before, she apologised for having made him wait for so long as she fixed her makeup.
Where was He Jie during this time? He was at the police station. The confusion we had about how it was possible that no issues rose from the cheque He Jie used to buy the coffee shop Lu Zi Xing worked part-time at gets cleared up in the moment just before Pei En Cai left to fix her makeup. He Jie was dragged away by police for providing a fake cheque to the coffee shop owner.
When He Jie expresses his confusion to Luo Ji (or Logic), the police office department head, towards how the things he’s materialised with his pen could be seen as fake, Luo Ji reiterates the explanation he had given him the first day he arrived at the police station: the pen is something he brought along with him from his real world into this fictional world. Luo Ji then explains that with He Jie being a real person, the things on him that he uses will be fake. Luo Ji adds that the pen can only be used for the mission and can’t be used for his own comforts because they will come out to be void.
He Jie finds the rules of the pen complex and unreasonable. It’s not to do with logics but simply a brain teaser. He exaggerates with asking if he should use a pen to benefit mankind while he mistreats himself. He Jie moves on from talking about the pen. He requests to be released immediately. The request gets denied by Luo Ji.
He Jie gets released, eventually. Luo Ji saw the mission to be an important matter and gave him a bag of something. We assume it’s money—money for daily spending maybe. It doesn’t seem to be for helping He Jie pay for the coffee shop he paid with a fake cheque since a later scene showed Gong Cheng calling for the boss of the coffee shop and a random guy came. The boss wasn’t He Jie.
By the time He Jie gets released from the police station, Lu Zi Xing has indeed made a good connection with Gong Cheng.
Gong Cheng is seen going to see Lu Zi Xing wishing to get something to eat with her. Lu Zi Xing can’t at the time he asks because she’s got places to be. We can’t tell if Lu Zi Xing planned this or not, but Gong Cheng comes to see the situation she is in when he drives her to the places. He sees her handing the loan sharks a small portion of the money she owes them after a brief trip to a clothes store to return the dress she wore at the masked ball. Gong Cheng ends up telling the loan sharks he will pay for what Lu Zi Xing owes to them.
Afterwards, Gong Cheng and Lu Zi Xing have something to eat together in the school’s dining hall. It’s something Lu Zi Xing is apologetic to Gong Cheng for because having something to eat at the school’s dining hall is as much as she’s capable of doing as thanks to him for lending her the money to pay for what she owed to the loan sharks.
Gong Cheng presents Lu Zi Xing with something that is a site of worry for her because it has the potential to reveal she wasn’t the person he danced with at the masked ball. Gong Cheng presents Lu Zi Xing a small box. When she opens it, she finds an earring. This earring belongs to Pei En Cai and it’s the one Pei En Cai lost as she went to fix her makeup at the masked ball. Gong Cheng says to Lu Zi Xing he finds the earring to be beautiful and would like to have the chance to see her wear the earrings sometime.
It wasn’t too difficult for Lu Zi Xing to get the other earring from Pei En Cai when Lu Zi Xing has Pei En Cai’s complete trust, kindness and generosity.
Lu Zi Xing has become one of Pei En Cai’s good friends after Pei En Cai mistaken Lu Zi Xing as her saviour on that evening of the masked ball. When Lu Zi Xing went back to remove the equipment she placed across the door to the room Pei En Cai was trapped in, Pei En Cai came out relieved and only saw Lu Zi Xing as the person who helped her rather than someone who returned to let her out finally.
Since then, Pei En Cai has been treating Lu Zi Xing like a best friend of hers. Lu Zi Xing is seen over at Pei En Cai’s place. She’s given Pei En Cai’s clothes and jewellery to try on in her room. Lu Zi Xing also gets the okay from Pei En Cai to be with Gong Cheng. Pei En Cai reassures Lu Zi Xing she doesn’t need to worry about her engagement with Gong Cheng because her engagement with him is set by her family and Gong Cheng’s family rather than it being something she and Gong Cheng set. She also goes to further put Lu Zi Xing’s heart at ease with revealing that she likes someone else. Lu Zi Xing, however, hears that the person Pei En Cai likes is none other than Gong Cheng when Pei En Cai says the person she likes is the person she danced with at the masked ball. That’s Gong Cheng.
This conversation came about after Pei En Cai’s mum had briefly come into the room with fruit for them. Pei En Cai’s mum had asked Pei En Cai about whether she had met up with Gong Cheng yet and mentioned the engagement before exiting.
It’s during this scene at Pei En Cai’s place that Lu Zi Xing comes across the other earring to the one that Gong Cheng had said was beautiful and wished to have the chance to see her wear. It was sitting on Pei En Cai’s bedroom dresser. We see Lu Zi Xing is successful in getting the other earring when we see Lu Zi Xing has both of them next to each other in their separate boxes on some table at home and she tries them on. Lu Zi Xing gives Gong Cheng the chance to see her wear the earrings at Crystal College’s art exhibition sponsored by Gong Group—an event Gong Cheng invited Lu Zi Xing to accompany him in.
The period of good happenings for Lu Zi Xing comes to an end at this art exhibition when He Jie come out with the security footage of Lu Zi Xing’s bad deed she carried out on Pei En Cai at the masked ball. He Jie had only intended to give Lu Zi Xing a bit of a push to get her to clear the misunderstanding Gong Cheng had about her being the person he danced with at the masked ball. He Jie wanted Lu Zi Xing to reveal to Gong Cheng that the person he danced with was Pei En Cai not her. However, He Jie’s upset stomach left him leaving the security footage to be found by two of Pei En Cai’s friends who seemed to not have liked Lu Zi Xing from the beginning. The footage gets screened to everyone just as Lu Zi Xing was about to tell the truth to Gong Cheng. Lu Zi Xing loses both Gong Cheng’s and Pei En Cai’s respect and trust.
Pei En Cai:
“It was you who trapped me in that day. If you told me what the actual situation was, I could forgive you. Why, Xiao Xing? I sincerely saw you as a friend. Did you only see me as someone you could deceive and use?”
Gong Cheng:
“The person who danced with me that day is really not you. I don’t know if I can still continue to trust you.”
Pei En Cai’s two friends follow with making Lu Zi Xing pitiful. One gives her a strong slap in the face and the other pour red wine over her head. They express satisfaction that they don’t have to be friends with her anymore.
The strong slap that Lu Zi Xing got from one of Pei En Cai’s friends was felt strongly by He Jie. He didn’t understand why he was feeling that slap Lu Zi Xing got. He goes to Luo Ji (or Logic) for an explanation. Luo Ji tells He Jie what he had already told him when he first came into the world of his manga: he and Lu Zi Xing are tied together. She dies, he dies. She’s in trouble. He’s in trouble. He Jie sees he’s gone about his mission incorrectly after this.
He Jie:
“If I knew I’d hurt when she hurts I could’ve gone for another strategy. At least I wouldn’t have let her be this out of luck.”
“I won’t be having an easy time from now on because Lu Zi Xing will be getting by very miserably.”
Luo Ji:
“Then how are you going to proceed?”
He Jie:
“Protect her.”
The next time He Jie sees Lu Zi Xing is when she’s walking about in the streets at night in a bit of a bad state. She has blood running down her forehead from Lu Zi Xing’s father (we find out he’s actually her stepfather) throwing an ashtray. Lu Zi Xing gave her stepfather a verbal attack on his shortcomings after he smugly brought up her humiliating moment at the art exhibition then telling her to stop torturing herself with trying to be in a better situation when he says she’s someone destined to be someone very inferior. She should follow his footsteps and do what he does. That brought Lu Zi Xing to a verbal attack on his person. He isn’t her real father and he’s someone who lives off of women. This got Lu Zi Xing an ashtray to her forehead.
He Jie:
“You should tell me what happened. Where have you been? What did you do to be in this state? Do you know that being like this will make people extremely worried?”
Lu Zi Xing:
“Don’t act like you’re concerned about me. I won’t feel grateful.”
He Jie goes to try working out what had made Lu Zi Xing look battered and dejected. He asks if her injury was because of the mistake he made with the security footage. Why didn’t she fight back or defend herself? Lu Zi Xing continues to stay silent.
He Jie tries to get her to speak with suggesting for her to hit him until she was happy. That becomes a past suggestion when He Jie moves onto the manga pages he had in his hands. These manga pages belong to Lu Zi Xing. They were pages Lu Zi Xing wanted to send to the publishers but found them torn to pieces in her locker earlier in the day. He Jie had taken it from Ji Rui—Lu Zi Xing’s classmate and one of Pei En Cai’s friends who seemingly still remained friends with Lu Zi Xing and is friendly towards her. He spent time piecing the manga pages back together.
After He Jie tells Lu Zi Xing he had pieced them back together for her and handed the manga pages to Lu Zi Xing, Lu Zi Xing wails. This makes He Jie flustered for a bit before getting her to hear him out with saying he is willing to make it up to her for putting her in the situation she was in now.
He Jie:
“Give me a chance to make it up to you for my mistake. Whatever you want, whatever aspirations you want to accomplish, I will do my utmost best to satisfy you.”
Lu Zi Xing agrees to give He Jie a chance to make it up to her. However, she isn’t pleased with how terrible of a job he did of piecing her manga pages together. (This might be the actual reason she was crying so hard.) She gets He Jie to come over to her and she deals him a series of hits to his body.
He Jie begins his mission of protecting Lu Zi Xing. In order to be there to protect Lu Zi Xing, he takes up the job of being Crystal College’s janitor so he is able to be around Lu Zi Xing more often.
He Jie comes across a situation Lu Zi Xing needs saving. The friends of Pei En Cai’s who had slapped and poured wine over Lu Zi Xing after exposing her bad deed with the security footage at the art exhibition takes revenge for Pei En Cai. They take Lu Zi Xing’s towel away whilst Lu Zi Xing showered. Three male students go into the girls’ shower room to take a quick shower because the boys’ shower room had a fault with the water supply.
As a janitor, He Jie is able to linger around and use the time to find the shower cubicle Lu Zi Xing is in. He goes to grab a towel after he spots the one Lu Zi Xing is in. He’s in time to make up a story about the faucet being broken in the shower cubicle Lu Zi Xing is in when one of the male students make a move to go into her one. He Jie gets into a flustered state when that male student recalls seeing He Jie before. (The male student is the one He Jie encountered when he first entered his manga at Lake Crystal). He Jie quickly makes himself scarce into Lu Zi Xing’s cubicle with saying he will be fixing the faucet. Lu Zi Xing is (understandably) not at all very welcoming of He Jie’s entrance into her shower cubicle. He Jie calms Lu Zi Xing down before he shows her the towel he got her to cover herself. He lets Lu Zi Xing cover herself up as he is turned away.
Final Comments:
Lu Zi Xing is not totally good. She’s not totally bad, either. The things she has been doing so far isn’t so serious to say she’s malicious or evil. We guess this is the beginning only. But we’re thinking Lu Zi Xing isn’t going to get to that ‘malicious’ and ‘evil’ character He Jie says she is in his manga with him being here to prevent that from happening. The interesting thing to see is the changes that takes place now. We hope we’ll continue to see He Jie narrate the events that takes place in the manga and see the change that occurs with his actions.
He Jie has definitely made his female lead character of his manga, Pei En Cai, perfect in every way. Beautiful, well-liked, good personality and from a classy family. She’s a great friend to have with her being so inclusive, generous and trusting. We want to not like this female lead character in He Jie’s manga, but she is very likable. :o) :o)
We’re kinda confused how bound together He Jie is to Lu Zi Xing. We clearly know He Jie can feel the physical pains that Lu Zi Xing receives like that slap to the face and how he feels the earring she puts through her ear. But, we wonder if it means he can also feel emotions like humiliation, guilt or nervousness. The expressions He Jie made at the art exhibition during when Lu Zi Xing got exposed looked like he was feeling what she was feeling.
It’s so great to see that He Jie is going to protect Lu Zi Xing. He Jie wasn’t exactly helping her or himself in his mission to change Lu Zi Xing’s miserable fate when his way of doing things only delayed moments in the manga from happening. Now that He Jie is not doing things to teach Lu Zi Xing a lesson and will be someone who’s there to protect her, we hope we can see He Jie show some sympathy towards her and her situation. We want to see him show some care towards Lu Zi Xing instead of always saying she’s a bad person who he hates. She’s a character that needs a lot of tender, love and care. It’s the only way she’ll go on the right path. :oD :oD
We’re assuming we’ll see more of Lu Zi Xing continuing to go to Gong Cheng. If this is the case, it’ll be an interesting thing to see how Gong Cheng interacts with Lu Zi Xing from this point onwards.
