Bai Hao Yu and Li Hui Zhen are boyfriend and girlfriend in this episode after the first kiss which happens in this episode. Lin Yi Mu’s gone and accepted defeat, and Bai Hao Yu and Xia Qiao start afresh and reintroduce themselves to each other as Li Hui Zhen’s boyfriend, Bai Hao Yu, and Li Hui Zhen’s best friend, Xia Qiao.
Outside the main action, Immortal’s on the up: thanks to some free publicity from a supermodel wearing a label belonging to their independent collaboration. More clues are given in relation to who the heir is, who Diviner is and who’s just an average working man. It’s not looking good for Han Xue. Lin Hu Sheng looks to be just an average working man, while the one she’s been looking down on—Lin Hao—is looking like he’s the heir, and Lin Yi Mu is looking like he’s Diviner!
Pretty Li Hui Zhen Episode 34 Recap
Han Xue:
“Do you guys usually eat dinner at that kind of place?”
Lin Hu Sheng:
“Don’t all of us workers do that? We choose places where it’s cheap, delicious and a place where we can chat.”
Han Xue’s date with Lin Hu Sheng and his friends isn’t as classy as she had hoped. Dressed in a short red dress borrowed from a Immortal’s wardrobe department, Han Xue is led to a street stall to feast on kebabs instead of a fancy restaurant she had expected. She meets Lin Hu Sheng’s friend, who don’t come off as people from high society: they’re dressed in regular-looking T-shirts, shirts and pants.
Han Xue thinks that maybe Lin Hu Sheng’s is just trying to be independent and not rely on his family’s wealth.
Li Hui Zhen:
“Just now, Deputy Editor in Chief… I went looking for him. We then spoke on the phone, and halfway through… I didn’t see him come back! Is he back or what?”
Zhu Ying:
“Don’t worry, don’t worry. Deputy Editor in Chief did come back just now. But he fainted in the hallway.”
Bai Hao Yu’s succumbed to the pressures of trying to keep Immortal alive. Last episode he had a bleeding nose and had fallen asleep at his desk. This episode, he faints whilst on the phone with Li Hui Zhen.
Li Hui Zhen hadn’t managed to catch him in person it seems, but she does catch him on the phone as Bai Hao Yu makes his way back into the Immortal office. Apparently, his business trip had finished early. This had caused Bai Hao Yu to arrive back into the office earlier than scheduled, and Li Hui Zhen to miss seeing him at wherever it was he was stopping to be picked up by his driver.
The fainting spell has Li Hui Zhen rushing back to the office in a panic, wanting to know what had happened to Bai Hao Yu. She’s greeted by Lin Hao and Zhu Ying who was still in the office, working late. They had watched Bai Hao Yu’s shadow collapse behind the glass door to the Immortal office and fills her in what had happened and reports that they had sent Bai Hao Yu to he hospital, but she’s not to worry as the doctor told them Bai Hao Yu’s condition isn’t serious. He’s just worked himself to exhaustion.
Despite the condition being not very serious, it still has Li Hui Zhen very worried. She makes her way out of the office immediately, not staying to wait for the address to the hospital Bai Hao Yu was sent. Instead, she asks Zhu Ying to send it to her.
Li Hui Zhen:
“Lin Yi Mu. I’m going to the hospital to take a look.”
Lin Yi Mu:
“Are you going to the hospital to see Bai Hao Yu? Let’s go. I’ll take you.”
She passes by Lin Yi Mu on her way out. There’s a call for her, but with her being so focused on getting to Bai Hao Yu, she doesn’t hear or see Lin Yi Mu at all the first time he calls out to her outside the Immortal office. Lin Yi Mu’s made to chase her down to ground floor and call out to her again before she finally acknowledges him. She’s asked about her heading, which has Li Hui Zhen talk about heading to the hospital to see. There’s no mention of who she’s seeing, but Lin Yi Mu seems to know already and sends her straight to the hospital where his love rival lay recuperating.
Xia Qiao:
“Between us four, two people found happiness. Isn’t this 50-50? If they can be happy, it’ll be enough. As for us, we will eventually get better, right?”
Last episode, Lin Yi Mu had counted his chances to be about 50-50 for winning Li Hui Zhen’s heart. Now, he thinks his odds aren’t even 90-10 after sending Li Hui Zhen off to Bai Hao Yu. (90 being Bai Hao Yu, 10 being Lin Yi Mu.)
Xia Qiao, who Lin Yi Mu visits to express this, takes an upbeat look at things. Although she didn’t end up with Bai Hao Yu and Lin Yi Mu didn’t end up with Li Hui Zhen, Bai Hao Yu did end up with Li Hui Zhen. This works out to be 50-50, since seeing Li Hui Zhen happy is what both of them wanted. That’s half of their happiness taken care of. Now the other half, they just have to wait as time will heal all. She believes that eventually, that remaining 50-percent happiness will come to them eventually.
Li Hui Zhen by Bai Hao Yu’s side, the two share their first kiss. The light touch Li Hui Zhen gives Bai Hao Yu upon seeing his sleeping form has Bai Hao Yu wake and pull her into his embrace. He lets her trace his brow before he closes the distance between them and kiss her.
Following the kiss, Li Hui Zhen asks Bai Hao Yu about his drawings. He started drawing those before he realised his own feelings, before he realised that deep down he knew she was Li Hui Zhen:
Bai Hao Yu:
“I didn’t know why, but I always thought of you. When I realised this, I was done drawing them. At first, I didn’t know why, but I realised my heart knew you were my Li Hui Zhen.”
He suggests that it was only himself that was holding himself back—back then and recently—but he won’t do that anymore:
Bai Hao Yu:
“Starting now, I won’t hold back anymore. Whatever I want to do, I will do. I miss you. I want to hug you. I want to kiss you. Love can’t be delayed. Let’s not waste anymore time, okay?”
“Prepare yourself. Starting now, I will become clingy.”
Li Hui Zhen has no issues with Bai Hao Yu being clingy. It makes her smile in fact. They remain laying on the bed next to each other, but a visit from the Editor in Chief forces the two to separate. Li Hui Zhen hides in the closet in Bai Hao Yu’s hospital ward whilst Bai Hao Yu leaves his ward so he can act as if he’s returned just in time to see a distraught Editor in Chief wailing over the empty bed.
Why Bai Hao Yu could leave the room without being spotted and Li Hui Zhen had to hide in the closet is a bit of a loophole, but we suppose that wouldn’t allow the comedy which the Editor in Chief’s wailing and overreaction is supposed to provide. It also wouldn’t allow the part at the end of the scene where Bai Hao Yu goes to help Li Hui Zhen out, which causes a misunderstanding in Li Hui Zhen as she thinks he’s leaning in to kiss her.
He teases her for thinking it, which has Li Hui Zhen make an excuse about him having mistaken her closed eyes and tilting of her head for her feeling dizzy. That has Bai Hao Yu pull her in for a second kiss to stop her rambling. The surprise in Li Hui Zhen when they part has Bai Hao Yu remind her of his earlier words about not holding back and just doing whatever he wants to do.
Lin Yi Mu:
“I just don’t want us to feel so awkward. We don’t need to keep a distance either. Even if we can’t become a couple, you are still my good little sister.”
The following morning, Lin Yi Mu plays a prank on Li Hui Zhen by farting in an elevator full of people and putting the blame on Li Hui Zhen. It’s his attempt to try avoid any awkwardness between them because he helped send her towards Bai Hao Yu despite his own feelings for her. Now that he knows he’s pretty much lost in this fight for Li Hui Zhen, he’s wanting to make sure Li Hui Zhen knows that he still wants her as his friend and for them not to have any awkwardness between them despite her having chosen to go to Bai Hao Yu.
As if helping Li Hui Zhen save herself from having to tell him she and Bai Hao Yu are now together, he acknowledges Li Hui Zhen as Bai Hao Yu’s girlfriend before she speaks a word about it:
Lin Yi Mu:
“How many good deeds did Bai Hao Yu do in his past life? He has a girlfriend like you. If he dares bully you next time, tell me and I’ll bully him for you!”
The second part of Diviner’s book is making the Immortal team come around to Zhu Ying’s previous suspicions about Diviner being possibly amongst them. The setting taking place in a magazine in China and the characters resemble their personalities. All this has Meili suggest that this is a subtle message from Diviner. The Editor in Chief offers the meaning behind Diviner (he foresees the future) which see connects to Immortal as a magazine which exists to lead trends into the future.
It’s getting clearer who the Heir is, who Diviner is and who’s just an average guy now. As well as the clue with Lin Hu Sheng taking Han Xue to eat street food with friends coming off as normal as he is, Lin Hao offering to take the job of reviewing Diviner’s book off Lin Yi Mu and leading the discussion on siding with Zhu Ying’s suspicions is giving bigger hints on who is who. Lin Hao is tracking towards being the heir, Lin Yi Mu being Diviner and Lin Hu Sheng being just an ordinary guy.
As the team continue chatting away about Diviner, Li Hui Zhen gets a phone call from the children’s book writer, Teacher Zhang, whom she met some episodes ago to write her first article for Immortal. Sitting at a café, the writer updates Li Hui Zhen on her intention to release a book of short stories. In this scene, the episode drops in the fact that Li Hui Zhen is working on writing her own novel, too. It looks like she might be realising her childhood dream of writing fairytales in the near future.
Zhu Ying:
“Gigi wore our clothes. Her fans are crazily going to our website buying clothes. It’s gone and crashed our server.”
Immortal’s business collaboration with Elleshop has finally paid off—with the help of a famous supermodel, Gigi, and a previous encounter Li Hui Zhen had with said supermodel. Online visitors are flocking to buy clothes from their online website as well as Immortal’s sponsored brands. This surge in visitors reached levels which is so high, it crashed their server.
A previous encounter Li Hui Zhen had with the supermodel has helped give Immortal huge publicity, too. A social media post from the supermodel mentions remembering having given an Immortal girl (Li Hui Zhen) some lingerie and wonders if that girl had worn it and found herself a boyfriend.
The final part of the episode has Bai Hao Yu see how great Xia Qiao treats Li Hui Zhen. Contrary to the negative view Bai Hao Yu probably has of Xia Qiao for pretending to be Li Hui Zhen, Xia Qiao is not only a great best friend, but a great person in general to the whole Zhen family.
Reluctant to leave Li Hui Zhen after dropping her off at her family home, Bai Hao Yu end up heading in and greeting her family and joining her parents’ wedding anniversary dinner. Li Hui Lin, being one to look up to and admire Xia Qiao, suddenly mentions about how she wished Xia Qiao were with them for dinner, which has the whole family start mention how if it weren’t for Xia Qiao, Li Hui Zhen wouldn’t have lived so well:
Li Hui Zhen’s mother:
“In all these years, thankfully Xia Qiao was around. That’s why our Hui Zhen lived so happily.”
Li Hui Lin:
“When my sister lost her job, it was Xia Qiao-jie who supported her, too. They lived together. Xia Qiao-jie paid for everything, too. When my sister entered the company, people often said she was so unfashionable. It was Xia Qiao-jie who taught her to be more fashion.”
After dinner, Bai Hao Yu runs into Xia Qiao just as he leaves to return to the office. What happens next is told through Xia Qiao later in the night. In Li Hui Zhen’s room, Xia Qiao tells Li Hui Zhen about having run into Bai Hao Yu and how he yelled at her. Xia Qiao was just joking. He was actually very civil and took some responsibility for how all of this happened and apologised—for mistaking her for Li Hui Zhen and not hearing her out when he discover her real identity:
Bai Hao Yu:
“From the beginning, I mistook you for someone else. At the end, I wasn’t able to give you a chance to explain and I put all the blame on you. I really went overboard. Hui Zhen has already reprimanded me. I want to apologise to you.”
He lets her know he read the letter she wrote, right after suggesting they leave the past in the past and start afresh—he as Li Hui Zhen’s boyfriend and Xia Qiao as Li Zhen’s best friend:
Bai Hao Yu:
“From now on, for Hui Zhen, let’s start over. Hello, I’m Bai Hao Yu: Li Hui Zhen’s boyfriend.”
Xia Qiao:
“Hello, I’m Xia Qiao: Li Hui Zhen’s best friend.”

That’s Episode 34. We really like how Pretty Li Hui Zhen got Bai Hao Yu to acknowledge his part in causing Xia Qiao to act as Li Hui Zhen. She Was Pretty didn’t have Ji Sung Joon do that. In She Was Pretty, Ji Sung Joon only apologised for not having let Min Ha Ri explain herself, but only after Min Ha Ri (Xia Qiao) apologised first.
Having Min Ha Ri apologise first makes it look like Min Ha Ri is completely in the wrong, which she isn’t. As Bai Hao Yu said to Xia Qiao, he’s the one who had mistaken her for his childhood friend. Had he not done that, Li Hui Zhen wouldn’t have had Xia Qiao pretend to be her. Xia Qiao could have ended things after the first day, but he didn’t make things easy for her when he kept appearing before her. So, it was a good change from the original to have Bai Hao Yu acknowledge his mistake and take this kind of responsibility for how things turned out.
We also thought it was great to see Bai Hao Yu suggest he and Xia Qiao start over. With Xia Qiao being such an important person to Li Hui Zhen, leaving the relationship between them unresolved or strained would put Li Hui Zhen in the middle. In She Was Pretty, the impression we got from when Ji Sung Joon spoke with Xia Qiao is that he forgives Min Ha Ri’s deception, but he won’t be looking to make things good between them. When he took her hand, he told her that had they met as Kim Hye Jin’s friends, they could have been good friends after telling her to take care. That sounds so much like a goodbye, like they won’t be crossing paths again. If he cared to not put Kim Hye Jin in a difficult, awkward, uncomfortable position, he probably should do what Bai Hao Yu did and suggest starting afresh.
Anyway, Pretty Li Hui Zhen handled the Bai Hao Yu-Xia Qiao relationship pretty well. We think these two would make a good alternate-reality fanfic. : oD : oD.
And in case anyone’s wondering what we thought about the first kiss between Li Hui Zhen and Bai Hao Yu, we thought not much. The scene is very similar to the original and we didn’t think much about the first kiss there. But in She Was Pretty, we thought Ji Sung Joon and Kim Hye Jin worked, but here, Li Hui Zhen and Bai Hao Yu still don’t work for us.
We’re on the final stretch of the drama. With Bai Hao Yu apologising to Xia Qiao and Lin Yi Mu acknowledging Li Hui Zhen as Bai Hao Yu’s girlfriend, the romance arc is looking like it’s pretty much wrapped up. Immortal’s situation is looking on the up as well. So, all that’s left is Li Hui Zhen getting her own dream of becoming a fairytale writer realised and revealing which of the three Lins is the heir, which is Diviner and which is just an average working man.
