What an interesting episode! A lot revealed.
What happened in last week’s episode was more than it seems. Episode 15 revealed what was actually going on in the kitchen during Grandma Huo’s 80th birthday celebration.
We finally see Wei Fen Qing reveal her feelings towards Huo Ting En. It’s a positive answer for Huo Ting En.
Ah Wei is looking uncertain about whether he should exit from the fight for Wei Fen Qing when we find him seeing Huo Ting En is someone who understands Wei Fen Qing quite some bit and does love her.
Episode 15 Recap
Wei Fen Qing agrees to sleep on the bed with Huo Ting En. Before they head to sleep, Huo Ting En tells Wei Fen Qing she needs to wake up early tomorrow to take a visit to an organic farm.
The organic farm is a supplier for their restaurant. At the organic farm, Huo Ting En tells Wei Fen Qing a bit about the owner. The owner has put in a lot work to getting the farm from nothing to what it is now. It’s the organic and natural produce and the honesty in the way the owner grows his produce that Yanis and La Mure buys from him.
The visit is with the purpose of helping Wei Fen Qing gain suppliers to help her in her dream of opening up her own restaurant and reclaim the title of Curry King.
Huo Ting En:
“Since you want to open a restaurant, sourcing supplies is relatively important.”
“I want you to succeed. Curry King. Do your best!”
Huo Ting En gets called into La Mure about a customer complaint made about the standard of their food which brought La Mure to receive a notice about the Food Safety Department coming to inspect them.
Peng Xiao Bin:
“Recently, we have had too many occurrences at La Mure: the ambassador banquet, Grandma’s 80th birthday celebration, and recently, the Food Safety Department.”
Grandma Huo’s birthday being brought up has Wei Fen Qing ask what was wrong on that day. It brings a telling of the actual events that took place on the night of Grandma Huo’s 80th birthday celebration.
The phone conversation Jack had outside La Mure that Ah Wei was seen present to hear in the previous episode is revealed.
Jack:
“I’m more familiar with the kitchen than you. I’ll take action tomorrow.”
“Let me remind you one more time. Don’t forget what you promised me. Also, I’m reminding you to not eat tomorrow’s meal.”
Huo Ting En and Meng Ru Xi was also there to overhear this conversation. Ah Wei, Huo Ting En and Meng Ru Xi, along with Peng Xiao Bin and Brian, all worked in secret to counter Jack’s attempt to ruin Wei Fen Qing’s cooking. They also work to find the person Jack worked for.
In the previous episode, we saw Meng Ru Xi with Jack in the kitchen. In this episode, it’s revealed she was there keeping Jack occupied. The rivalry that took place between Ah Wei and Huo Ting En was to create confusion in the lobster they used. The food made in the kitchen were swapped out with those that Huo Ting En and Ah Wei made in a food truck that Ah Wei supplied and was parked outside.
The person behind Jack is Yang Yu Qing. Huo Ting En found this information from overhearing Jack’s phone call where Yang Yu Qing’s name was spoken. This phone call was informing Jack they have failed in their attempt to ruin Wei Fen Qing’s cooking.
Wei Fen Qing isn’t happy she was the only one not informed and included in their plans. She asks that next time she gets informed and included. She then wonders why nothing has been done regarding Jack and Yang Yu Qing. It’s that they have Huo Tian Zhi and Grandma Huo in mind. They will be hurt from knowing Yang Yu Qing has been up to no good. It’s also that Yang Yu Qing may be innocent and most likely ordered by Gong Mei Li. Huo Ting En will deal with Jack, however. He feels they need to find the right time to deal with him.
Jack provides the opportunity when Wei Fen Qing returns to the La Mure kitchen and Huo Ting En allows Wei Fen Qing to handle a young customer repetitively sending back his order of salad. Jack mentions the Curry Lover’s Bread situation with dislike as well as this current situation where Wei Fen Qing wishes to make vegetarian meatballs to serve to the young customer who doesn’t like the taste of vegetables. He then scolds Wei Fen Qing for things she has published online.
Jack:
“Exactly what kind of a state do you want our La Mure kitchen to be in before you’re willing to give up?”
“You went as far as publishing your father’s recipes on the Internet and the curry lobster you learned at La Mure. This is ridiculous. I did everything to get into La Mure in order to learn things. You gave it away so easily like this. Is this not utterly wrong? Furthermore, you aren’t respecting your father’s hard work.”
Wei Fen Qing finds Jack a selfish person who’s forgotten what it is to be a chef.
Wei Fen Qing:
“If I heard correctly just now, you said that I shared what I learned at La Mure and also my father’s recipe. If I’m not wrong, these two things belong to me. Why can’t I share it?”
“There are a lot of people who’d do everything to learn about cooking, but don’t know where to start. If I share, then they’ll have a place where they can begin. If everyone was selfish like you, would you be able to be a chef at La Mure? I can see that you have simply forgotten what a chef’s original aspiration is. It’s having customers happily eat. I see you’re not even happy when you’re cooking. How can customers be happy?”
Jack continues his verbal attack on Wei Fen Qing with pointing out her inferior night market cooking background against his many years of experience in the field of cuisine and at La Mure. He commands those in the kitchen to speak of the person they supported: him or Wei Fen Qing.
Brian:
“Jack, sorry. A head chef is one people respect. It’s not through qualifications or age, but their abilities.”
“Whether it’s the ambassador banquet or that Curry Lover’s Bread, you only got angry and roared. You didn’t do anything. You didn’t solve any problems whatsoever. It was Fen Qing who handled the problems and helped the restaurant. So how are we supposed to support you? Do you understand?”
Brian gets the other kitchen staff to support Wei Fen Qing. They chant in support of Wei Fen Qing. Jack directs the question to Huo Ting En.
Huo Ting En:
“This makes it very difficult for me because both of you are important to me. You are La Mure’s chef while she is possibly my future wife. If you insist on me choosing then I naturally choose her.”
Huo Ting En gets onto the business of removing Jack from La Mure. He provides reasons to do so. All the problems La Mure has come across has been the doing of Jack: the odd reservations, the broken Reishi eggs, the food poisoning and Grandma Huo’s 80th birthday. Huo Ting En lists them for Jack to hear he has knowledge of them. Jack doesn’t make a move to leave after this or when the kitchen staff all vote for him to leave. Jack only leaves when the staff follows Huo Ting En’s example of ignoring with turning their backs to him and resumes work, ignoring him.
Huo Ting En and Ah Wei look onto Wei Fen Qing serving her vegetarian meatball dish to the young customer who had sent back his salad dish four times. Wei Fen Qing had created this dish of hers for the young customer with the understanding of the young customer’s dislike of the taste of vegetables. She was once like him who was sensitive to the taste of vegetables. This dish doesn’t get sent back. Wei Fen Qing successfully gets the young customer to enjoy a dish made with vegetables.
Huo Ting En to Ah Wei:
“Didn’t you ask me why I don’t help her? It’s not that I don’t want to help her. It’s that she doesn’t need my help. Wei Fen Qing wants to do things herself.”
“Since that’s the case, I have to respect her and believe in her. I’ll be her backup. If she comes across problems, I will take action and help her.”
“Even if she makes mistakes, it’s okay. At least she learns from the experience. That’s my way of loving her.”
These words go around Ah Wei’s mind as he shoots some hoops by himself some time later.
Ah Wei:
“This is Huo Ting En’s way of loving her. He believes in her and protects her in the background. I never thought that he would be right. Right now, Fen Qing looks very happy with him. Should I give up and let her be with him?”
After service, Huo Ting En and Wei Fen Qing spend some time sitting outside La Mure. It’s one where Wei Fen Qing makes a comment on Huo Ting En’s profile looking pretty good. It’s a comment that has Huo Ting En feel she’s at it again. She had said this once before. It was when they were up in the mountains and he was commenting on the starry skies after he calmed her from panic of finding darkness around her with his presence (Episode 9). Like that time, Huo Ting En goes to make Wei Fen Qing see that his front view is good-looking also. He asks Wei Fen Qing to focus and look closely at his front view. He says it just takes some getting used to.
Wei Fen Qing:
“Does it mean that if you look at me for a long time you’ll think I’m very pretty?”
Sweet words is Huo Ting En’s response to Wei Fen Qing’s question.
Huo Ting En:
“I don’t need to look at you for a long time. Ever since the beginning, I thought you were very pretty.”
Huo Ting En leans into Wei Fen Qing to kiss her, but he’s pushed away and is asked if Meng Ru Xi has left. She asks why he didn’t take her home after Huo Ting En says he doesn’t know if Meng Ru Xi has left. Huo Ting En is surprised Wei Fen Qing was asking him to take another woman home. Meng Ru Xi is a woman, Wei Fen Qing says. It’s that he should make sure she’s safe.
Wei Fen Qing reveals to Huo Ting En she sees he treats her well when she recalls all the times he took care of her when she came across problems: carrying her when her shoe broke when they were up in the mountains to obtain Reishi eggs, expressing he’ll take responsibility when she was at the gynaecology clinic, bringing her to ride in his car instead of her bike when it was raining, and sheltering her from the rain with his jacket when they made it to La Mure.
Huo Ting En wants Wei Fen Qing to give him some sort of expression for him treating her well. He’s looking for a kiss on the cheek. He brings his cheek towards Wei Fen Qing.
Wei Fen Qing agrees to give him something, but not a kiss on the cheek. She’ll cook curry. Huo Ting En is confused why she wants to cook curry. Wei Fen Qing explains that it’s that he is curry to her. Huo Ting En finds him being seen as curry to be something unflattering. He says he recognises he has the smell of curry on him. However, it just takes a wash to get rid of the smell.
Being seen as curry is of high regard to Wei Fen Qing. This brings her to express her feelings to Huo Ting En.
Wei Fen Qing:
“You are as important as curry. You made me want to become better and not just be that Wei Fen Qing who wants to fulfill her parents’ wishes.”
“You always tell me that I am who I am. I don’t need to change in any way. I just need to be happy fulfilling my dream and do what I want to do. So when I’m with you, I feel very secure. And then, I don’t know why I fell for you.”
The episode closes with Huo Ting En and Wei Fen Qing in their room. Huo Ting En presents Wei Fen Qing a folder of his family’s secret recipes. It’s something Huo Ting En feels will be of use to her. After expressing not being able to accept such a valuable item and asking why Huo Ting En chose her as his fiancée—to which he responded with saying she’s always willing to help him as well as the fact that he likes her—Wei Fen Qing looks through the folder. What she finds is that it’s her father’s notes.
Peng Xiao Bin’s antics
This was such a funny scene. It’s where Huo Ting En goes to explain to Wei Fen Qing why they are holding back on doing something about Yang Yu Qing and Jack for their bad deeds on Grandma Huo’s 80th birthday celebration. It was so hard to concentrate on the subtitles with Peng Xiao Bin acting in the background. The things he was chattering about in the background as well as his imitations and acting out what Huo Ting En was saying was too funny to ignore!
Ah Wei giving useful information out to his love rival
This is an insert moment during when Ah Wei and Huo Ting En overhears Jack’s conversation about ruining the meals at Grandma Huo’s birthday celebration. We thought exactly what Huo Ting En thought when Ah Wei went to tell Huo Ting En why Wei Fen Qing might have difficulty expressing her feelings. Ah Wei said it’s most likely due to security issues with her dad not being around as well as the need to take care of her mum and younger brother. After Ah Wei said this, Huo Ting En pointed out to Ah Wei that he had just leaked out information to his love rival. That’s what we thought at this moment! But Ah Wei says he was fine sharing a bit of information with Huo Ting En. How nice of Ah Wei! Of course, this was the last one. He said he won’t give anymore from now on. Yeah, understandable. :oD :oD
