Episode 4 Recap
Kim Je Ha’s attack in the elevator was all in his mind. The reality is he didn’t even make it to grabbing the weapon from the guards. Chief Joo’s observations about Kim Je Ha was right. He can’t kill, and it’s because he witnessed Raniya shot in the head before his eyes after a meeting involving her and Park Kwan Soo.
He doesn’t let Park Kwan Soo go so easily, though. He’s bent on giving him a proper greeting in the form of a trap set on a revolving door. It relies on him exiting through the revolving door upon which a sensor will set off a rain of water (we think it’s water). This sensor is slipped into Park Kwan Soo’s jacket after a visit to the barber, a place which Kim Je Ha purposefully goes in order to have access to Park Kwan Soo’s jacket which hangs with his in the barber’s jacket cupboard.
Unfortunately for Kim Je Ha, his payback fails when a young boy runs ahead of Park Kwan Soo, trapping himself in the revolving door the trap is set. As Park Kwan Soo approaches the boy and gives him a teasing about being in there, the young boy is in danger of being the victim of Kim Je Ha’s trap. It’s fortunate Park Kwan Soo is ushered off by his guards through a side door far enough so that the trap isn’t activated on the young boy.
The attempted attack exposes him to Park Kwan Soo’s guards. He is chased through the building, up to the rooftop where Kim Je Ha appears to have planned for the event he is exposed to them. On the rooftop waiting for him is a harness and rope for abseiling down the building. Coincidentally, below, awaits Choi Yoo Jin and Chief Joo with their car. With Choi Yoo Jin’s help, Kim Je Ha escapes the guards.
Inside the car, Choi Yoo Jin offers to be Kim Je Ha’s bullet (with the likely understanding that he work for her as a bodyguard). When Kim Je Ha rejects the help, telling her that he can be the bullet himself, she points out that not only is Park Kwan Soo hard to kill with the many people around him, but he’s now known to his guards. Security will be tightened after this stunt of his and approaching the assemblyman to carry out his revenge is going to be more difficult in the future.
Choi Yoo Jin’s logic seems to get through to Kim Je Ha as the moment his injured hand is out of its cast, Kim Je Ha is seen going along with a training session at the JSS, under instructor Song Young Choon. The new recruits find it difficult to take on the instructor when called upon, but Kim Je Ha make light work of it all. He is quickly progressed through to active duty when Chief Joo assigns him to the VIP Team—a team consisting of the many security personnel he not long ago defeated single-handedly.
The members aren’t all too welcoming because of that. Going into the communal shower to take a shower has the others try take on Kim Je Ha in their bare-naked bodies. Kim Je Ha takes them all down of course. VIP Team Leader, Team Leader Seo, isn’t too keen on having Kim Je Ha on his team either for that very reason: none of the team members are ready to accept him; but, Team Leader Seo goes along with Chief Joo’s wishes after Chief Joo likens Kim Je Ha to a great hunting dog which has been brought home and thrown into a pack of other hunting dogs. Fighting will occur, but so will the reordering of the hierarchy. It will all work itself out.
Part of the JSS VIP Team, Kim Je Ha is designated the name K2 and assigned the night-shift for Section C. It’s a mundane assignment involving no teamwork. He does have a partner, though: Jang Mi Ran, code name J4. She’s a guard previously and currently assigned to keep watch of Ko Anna. Whilst she keeps guard downstairs, Kim Je Ha keeps watch of all rooms in Choi Yoo Jin’s residence through CCTV cameras.
Kim Je Ha is briefed on Ko Anna’s habits and anxieties which all seem to relate to the events after her mother’s death and the crowding of journalists and their flashing camera. She has a severe panic disorder which can be brought on by flickering light and strong, direct beams of light (like sunlight and camera flashes). Seeing them will have her experience short-term amnesia. As such, curtains are always closed in her room and she rarely does anything in the daytime (but she can go out in the daytime). As well as the severe panic disorder, Ko Anna has severe sociophobia. The maids will only go into her room after she leaves it for an hour around 9pm when she goes to take a shower. At that time, the maid and Jang Mi Ran will check her room to make sure she doesn’t have anything dangerous or forbidden in there.
His mission is to watch over her and make sure she remains hidden from the world at least until the presidential election is over. He is told Park Kwan Soo and his people in particular must not find out about her. The implication is if he were to find out about Ko Anna, he’d use her to their advantage.
The attempt to film Jang Se Joon with another woman back in Episode 1 and the car hacking is looking to be linked to Park Kwan Soo. At a function where both Jang Se Joon, Choi Yoo Jin and Park Kwan Soo are all attending, the woman who was with Jang Se Joon that night—Ms. Kim—is suggested to have been one of Park Kwan Soo’s people. To Park Kwan Soo’s surprise, she’s since switched sides and working at a foundation belonging to Choi Yoo Jin.
Park Kwan Soo denies any involvement, putting whatever Ms. Kim was apparently trying to confess to Choi Yoo Jin as subordinates taking it upon themselves to do unnecessary things. But, in Park Kwan Soo’s move to—in not so many words—accuse Choi Yoo Jin of the trap on the revolving door, he also hints at a confession that he is behind the recent incidents to cause harm to Choi Yoo Jin as he mentions a tie, of not physically hurting each other and calling a ceasefire. (Sounds like Park Kwan Soo was behind the filming and the hacking of the car.)
It’s a dull night for Kim Je Ha’s first night on duty—that is, until 10:30pm. Ko Anna finally exits her room. Her appearance has him sit up instantly from his reclined position and watch her head into the kitchen with great interest. Her searching gaze has him intrigued and asking her question after question, wondering where she was going, what she was after, and whether she was hungry.
Ko Anna was hungry. She was searching around for food, but not just any food. She wanted ramyun. When she finds a packet, it has her spin, jump and hug the packet. The way a simple packet of ramyun lit Ko Anna right up has Kim Je Ha in a brief trance. He slowly returns, letting out a small smile, before he goes back to observing her attempt to make ramyun.
She doesn’t seem to know how to make ramyun as she chooses the wrong size pot to begin with and puts in too much water. When she goes to try cook it, she knows to turn on the stove, but struggles with locating the valve to supply the stove with gas. In the end, she leaves defeated, which has Kim Je Ha talk to her through the screen in vain, telling her not to give up. Seeing how she was so happy about finding the noodles and not being able to have them in the end bothered him enough to wonder whether he should go make the noodles for her. He doesn’t, though.
The episode closes with a short scene where Choi Yoo Jin and Jang Se Joon leaving the function in separate cars. Jang Se Joon is off on another rendezvous with a woman according to Choi Yoo Jin, who actually suggested they leave separately because of this knowledge. They pose for the cameras, waving goodbye to them and indulge their request for a loving pose before Choi Yoo Jin is seen in her own car seemingly affected by the contrast of their on-camera and off-camera relationship as tears roll down her cheek.
We are then taken back to Kim Je Ha at the CCTV control room for the final scene of the episode. Ko Anna fast asleep in her room, he heads out to the balcony to take a smoke. He stares off to his left towards a bedroom window and smiles to himself (we like to think it’s Ko Anna’s room and he’s still amused by her earlier attempt to cook ramyun :oD :oD). As he continues to smile in between lighting up his cigarette, a shadow and a flickering light on the rooftop catches his attention. Someone’s on the rooftop.
Thoughts
Could the person on the rooftop be Ko Anna trying to escape again? How interesting it would be if it were to be her. It’d be their first face to face encounter in Korea!
Episode 4 was a really nice episode. Our favourite part has to be the scene where Kim Je Ha is talking to Ko Anna though the CCTV camera and how he was so taken by the sight of her being so happy because of a pack of noodles. It makes him a little less edgy and more… cute!
There was a shot of Kim Je Ha being surprised by Ko Anna’s stare. She turned exactly the same time and speed he zoomed the camera in, causing him to jump in surprise. Imagine that! Kim Je Ha, a person who can probably anticipate the quickest, sneakiest of attacks was surprised by her stare.
We love the scene between Kim Je Ha and the instructor, too. (The instructor is Gangster Doo Chul (Song Kyung Chul) from Yong Pal!) He had no clue how good Kim Je Ha is and was so cocky, making him so funny and the scene so awesome to watch.
And what about the latest action scene installment? Last episode it was blood, blood, blood. This time, it’s men fighting in their bare-naked bodies in a communal shower. There can’t be too many action dramas with such a scene, right? What will the action scenes be next episode? We don’t think there can be an action scene that can top this one. The fuzz covering just enough as they’re all hitting, kicking, flipping—that’s just too funny!
Let’s see what Episode 5 has installed. We’re kind of excited to see what kind of relationship will develop between Kim Je Ha and Ko Anna after seeing him in a trance over seeing her do happy because a packet of noodles. If it is Ko Anna who’s on the rooftop, lets see how she fears against Kim Je Ha. Her against him, she could be quite a challenge for him to chase down. She’s like a serial escaper, very experienced!
There’s an interesting story behind Choi Yoo Jin and Jang Se Joon, too. The shock in her face when Jang Se Joon put on a loving, smiling act when the journalists asked as well as the tears after they separated seemed to suggest she wants more from him than a simple business contract-like relationship they have.
Something’s also going on with the investigation of the car accident Kim Je Ha and Choi Yoo Jin was in. The investigator pocketed a chip when he was investigating some pieces from the accident. We later see him give this chip to Chief Joo who seem to have a deal with the investigator to report that they didn’t find anything. Choi Yoo Jin is next seen with it and using it to make Park Kwan Soo unsettled at the function just before Ms. Kim is shown to have joined hands with Choi Yoo Jin. It’s a battle between the two.
Great episode this one is!
