Episode 11 Recap
After the routine cleaning at Ji Wen Kai’s place in the morning, it’s to the office for Zhong Yu Tang. Sales Team 3 continue to track down Chairman Wang to convince him to allow them to use Shinway’s egg shell bio-product in Mei Mei after all of yesterday’s attempts had been unsuccessful. It’s their last chance as Chairman Wang is told to be heading to Russia with his wife for two weeks for his 40th anniversary.
Chairman Wang is known to Sales Team 3 to be at the gym at between 4 pm – 6 pm. As Huang Jia Yin and Jiang Hui Xin distract the guard guarding the hallway to the men’s changing room with their flirtations, and after Meng He peppersprays him and Chen You Rui and Zhu Liang Yu come to hold down the men who come to assist their fellow guard, Zhong Yu Tang makes her way into the men’s changing room. She walks past embarrassed men hiding their half-naked bodies anyway they can. She even helps one cover himself after he loses his towel around his waist with throwing a towel to him. She comes to stand before Chairman Wang. Chairman Wang’s reaction to Zhong Yu Tang’s presence is unlike the men Zhong Yu Tang had passed. With a towel wrapped around his waist, a towel draped over his shoulder, he stands tall. He applauds Zhong Yu Tang. “Salesperson Zhong, you’re even able to find me like this. You’re good,” Chairman Wang says to Zhong Yu Tang. “To have a meeting with Chairman Wang, come hell or high water, I’m willing to do it,” Zhong Yu Tang says.
Zhong Yu Tang cornering Chairman Wang in such a location is effective when Chairman Wang easily agrees to Zhong Yu Tang’s request to sit down somewhere to have a talk. Chairman Wang only asks Zhong Yu Tang wait outside and allow him to wash up. There is one condition Chairman Wang will have to agree to before Zhong Yu Tang agrees to see to this request, however: “Please use this,” Zhong Yu Tang says, holding out a bar of Mei Mei beautifying soap.
Zhong Yu Tang takes Chairman Wang to a popular restaurant serving silk stocking milk tea. She seems to have taken Chairman Wang to this restaurant upon the fact of knowing he always drinks a glass of silk stocking milk tea after exercising. Holding one in her hand, teasing him, it is used to bargain a chance for Mei Mei. “I hear this glass of silk stocking milk tea has a silky smooth texture. It’s unforgettable. The restaurant sells a limited quantity of 20 glasses every day. And today’s last glass is in my hands. However, I hope that before Chairman Wang drinks this glass of milk tea, you will let me finish speaking of my understanding of Shinway and give Mei Mei a chance. Actually, Shinway doesn’t only have a specialised research in egg shell extract that made us choose Shinway. It’s because we know—”
Zhong Yu Tang’s long-windedness in combination with the silk stocking milk tea seems to finally break Chairman Wang. He acknowledges Zhong Yu Tang’s persistence and Sales Team 3’s determination—it’s something that he feels he should find trust in. “How about this. I’ll think about it,” Chairman Wang says and gestures Zhong Yu Tang to hand over the glass of silk stocking milk tea. Zhong Yu Tang hands it to him. He enjoys it thoroughly and agrees the milk tea is good.
This encounter has Chairman Wang take a liking to Zhong Yu Tang when Wang Zi Yu shows up in the middle of their meeting. Chairman Wang tells of having messaged his son earlier to come when Zhong Yu Tang wondered why he was here. Wang Zi Yu doesn’t realise his father’s reason for calling him over to join them. Wang Zi Yu seems concerned about seeing Zhong Yu Tang working hard to convince his father when Wang Zi Yu begins asking his father to give Mei Mei a chance.
Chairman Wang tells Wang Zi Yu Zhong Yu Tang has already finished talking about it. After saying that, he says, “I feel it’s not bad.” This is something he had already said some moments ago and the meaning is misunderstood. Zhong Yu Tang misunderstands it to mean Mei Mei and the collaboration between them when she asks whether this is what he meant when he said ‘it’s not bad’. “No. What I mean is… what if you, Salesperson Zhong, are able to become our family’s daughter-in-law—that then really is not bad.” Wang Zi Yu is embarrassed. “Dad!” he exclaims and looks bewildered at his father’s terribly embarrassing thought. Chairman Wang ignores his son’s embarrassment. He tells Wang Zi Yu he called him over to help him finish all of the food on the table. He and Zhong Yu Tang must not leave until they finish all of it, he says before he leaves the two to it.
Zhong Yu Tang and Wang Zi Yu’s meeting come to an end come night. A final talk on the events of the day with Wang Zi Yu telling Zhong Yu Tang she and Sales Team 3 have worked hard and that he will continue putting in effort with getting his father to change his mind before Wang Zi Yu reveals his like towards Zhong Yu Tang.
“It seems my father now also likes you. Did you mind when he said he wanted you to be his daughter-in-law?” Wang Zi Yu says after Zhong Yu Tang expresses her empathy towards him for the pressures she sees him to shoulder for being a company chairman’s son. Zhong Yu Tang seems to feel Wang Zi Yu has read too much into his father’s words when she responds with saying she didn’t mind because she saw Chairman Wang’s words to be joking around. “He was being serious,” Wang Zi Yu replies before telling Zhong Yu Tang that this is the first time he and his father agreed on something. “We both really like you,” he says. He then goes onto tell Zhong Yu Tang he has liked her since they first met at a secretary gathering. And having worked alongside her confirmed his instincts of liking her back then was right.
Zhong Yu Tang tries to stop Wang Zi Yu from continuing on with revealing his feelings towards her; but, Wang Zi Yu quickly asks her to allow him to finish. He doesn’t get that opportunity to finish. He also doesn’t get the opportunity to grab hold of Zhong Yu Tang’s hand that he had reached out to hold when Ji Wen Kai grabs onto that hand of Zhong Yu Tang’s and steps in between him and Zhong Yu Tang.
Ji Wen Kai comes after Meng He sends him another message of warning of Zhong Yu Tang being in a meeting with Chairman Wang and Wang Zi Yu’s appearance could be likely. It saw Ji Wen Kai heed to the warning after reading the message.
“She needs to come with me,” Ji Wen Kai says to Wang Zi Yu. He then pulls Zhong Yu Tang along to leave with him.
Zhong Yu Tang isn’t impressed with Ji Wen Kai. After running and being taken some distance away from Wang Zi Yu, to a walkway bridge overlooking the night street, she asks Ji Wen Kai what he was doing and why she must go with him. It’s because of the agreement she had with him in the morning where she agreed to be available for his errands around the clock. The way in which he dragged her, made her run to this location and interrupt her conversation with Wang Zi Yu has Zhong Yu Tang feeling Ji Wen Kai to be unreasonable and taking his rights too far. The response Zhong Yu Tang gets from Ji Wen Kai is a hand holding her cheeks before lips touch hers. Zhong Yu Tang stands frozen for a moment before she closes her eyes and succumbs to Ji Wen Kai’s kiss.
Ji Wen Kai seems a little unsure after he releases Zhong Yu Tang from his kiss as he brings the hand he had cupped around Zhong Yu Tang’s face back to his side in an unsteady manner. He looks at Zhong Yu Tang with a serious cast. “Didn’t you ask me— ‘Are you taking revenge on me, taking care of me or protecting me?’ I’ll answer you now. All of the above is because I like you.” Zhong Yu Tang seems to be still dazed when no response comes from her. Ji Wen Kai takes this moment of opportunity to head into Zhong Yu Tang for another kiss. He’s slow in his actions, appearing somewhat unsure whether he should or if he could. He resumes and makes it just till his lips graze Zhong Yu Tang’s lips before Zhong Yu Tang backs away. She tells him to hold on. He’s a little shock from the sudden instruction. Zhong Yu Tang asks him if what they should do is cool down a bit. Ji Wen Kai appears embarrassed. He agrees. “Alright. Well… I think I’ll cool down a bit, too… Head home.”
Ji Wen Kai’s embarrassment makes him and Zhong Yu Tang move in the wrong direction. Many slow steps realising they are heading in the wrong direction, they turn back and face each other. Each point and indicate their house to be in the opposite direction they had moved in. They awkwardly come back, pass each other and resume in the right direction and towards home.
At their respective houses, Ji Wen Kai isn’t able to cool down from it. He finds his heartbeat is still racing. Meanwhile, Zhong Yu Tang debates with herself whether or not her reaction of telling Ji Wen Kai to cool off was insensitive. She scolds herself when she finds herself thinking about the kiss and judging it to have felt quite good. After taking a shower, Zhong Yu Tang debates on whether she should message Ji Wen Kai. When she decides she will message Ji Wen Kai, she struggles to find the right message to send. Zhong Yu Tang decides on asking Ji Wen Kai whether he was home yet after dismissing the former one which saw her wanting to ask him about when he started liking her. Zhong Yu Tang is disappointed with the message Ji Wen Kai returns—a short ‘I’m home’. She sends another one, asking whether she should come the next day to clean his house. She receives no reply and it has her going to sleep annoyed.
Ji Wen Kai apparently had forgotten about Zhong Yu Tang’s message after looking at it when Miao Ai Sha’s message had come in. It was a message telling him Mr. Tapko had asked him whether or not he was going to Russia the next day. Ji Wen Kai’s response to Mr. Tapko was he didn’t have a plan to and will inform him in advance when he does have the plan to in the future.
The next day, Zhong Yu Tang doesn’t receive a response to her question about whether or not she should come clean, either. She still decides to head to Ji Wen Kai’s place, however. She sends a message to Ji Wen Kai she was coming. As Zhong Yu Tang makes her way to his house, still waiting for Ji Wen Kai’s response and complaining about him not having replied, Ji Wen Kai appears before her. “Morning,” he greets Zhong Yu Tang after she greets him. “We still have some time before work. How about we go have breakfast and take a stroll?” Ji Wen Kai says.
Ji Wen Kai and Zhong Yu Tang dine in at a small eatery. It’s a scene where Ji Wen Kai shows Zhong Yu Tang he knows her eating habits with ordering the foods she likes to eat for her. It’s then a conversation of Ji Wen Kai telling Zhong Yu Tang he wants her to officially be his girlfriend. A change of relationship status comes with a change of his creditor status on her family eatery. He hands an entire jar of puzzle pieces over to Zhong Yu Tang. He is no longer their creditor and she no longer has to clean his house.
Zhong Yu Tang expresses an unwillingness to accept Ji Wen Kai’s huge gesture of kindness with a sense of responsibility— “I can accept the puzzle pieces. But, I still need to do what I must do,” she says. Ji Wen Kai explains that matters concerning her will be shared by him as well now. Ji Wen Kai’s gesture is accepted by Zhong Yu Tang and she becomes his girlfriend when their conversation moves on naturally.
A message from Wang Zi Yu coming into her phone brings a brief moment of Ji Wen Kai becoming inattentive to Zhong Yu Tang. He seems unhappy to hear Zhong Yu Tang speak about Wang Zi Yu again. When Zhong Yu Tang tells Ji Wen Kai the message that just came into her phone was Wang Zi Yu telling her of his plan to get to his father before he makes it to Russia to convince him about Mei Mei and the collaboration, Ji Wen Kai’s eyes and attention are on his phone he takes out to look at. Zhong Yu Tang asks Ji Wen Kai whether he was listening when he doesn’t answer her question of whether Wang Zi Yu had a chance of convincing his father. His response of asking Zhong Yu Tang where she got up to has Zhong Yu Tang immediately notice his attitude is dislike of her mentioning Wang Zi Yu. She tells Ji Wen Kai she will talk to Wang Zi Yu when he gets back.
The conversation moves on once more. Zhong Yu Tang wishes to ask Ji Wen Kai some questions. However, Ji Wen Kai finds the time to eat is running away. He tells her she may ask them only after she finishes putting together the 500-piece puzzle. Ji Wen Kai then tells Zhong Yu Tang they will now see each other seriously as boyfriend and girlfriend. He adds that, if they are able to, he hopes they can continue going forward in this path.
At work, Zhong Yu Tang fills Sales Team 3 in on the meeting with Chairman Wang as unsuccessful when she tells her colleagues he was still unwilling with the idea of a collaboration. However, she tells them to be patient as she informs of a chance they still have with the efforts from Wang Zi Yu.
It isn’t long before good news arrives. After a brief time of Sales Team 3 coaxing Zhong Yu Tang to reveal that she’s in a relationship after Chen You Rui notices something usually positive about her, a message comes into Zhong Yu Tang’s phone. It’s Wang Zi Yu. He informs her he has succeeded with getting his father to agree to the collaboration between Mei Mei and Shinway.
With things back on course, Sales Team 3 discuss a sales strategy. The strategy Sales Team 3 adopts is more for less; order now, pay when goods are sold; and the ability to return stock that isn’t sold. Huang Jia Yin notes the strategy is risky with a possibility of excessive bad debt from high shipping costs and storage costs if poor sales brings about returns of unsold stock. But the risk is one Sales Team 3 is willing to take as they all believe in their product. Furthermore, the bet with Sales Team 1 makes them strive forward in the risky plan.
It’s home time for Sales Team 3. They speak of their plans after work: Huang Jia Yin thinks about going home and hugging her son; Meng He thinks about her cat at home missing her a lot; Zhu Liang Yu is wanting to relax with a movie at the cinema; and Chen You Rui is hungry and thinking about having barbequed meat. Huang Jia Yin seem to indicate a change of mind with her plans, indicating she may wish to join Chen You Rui when she says she can pick up her son a little later. Jiang Hui Xin suggests for them all to have barbequed meat together.
Whilst Huang Jia Yin, Meng He, Chen You Rui and Zhu Liang Yu listen to Jiang Hui Xin speak about finding a place to have barbequed meat, Zhong Yu Tang reads a message sent to her phone. It’s Ji Wen Kai. ‘I’m already waiting for you outside the building. When you head out of the door, directly head in the car. You can decide where to go tonight,’ he writes. Zhong Yu Tang sends a message back: ‘Um… Let me have a think. I’ll send over the place to meet. When the place is decided, I’ll meet you there.’ After she finishes replying, she finds her colleagues staring at her oddly and wondering if she would join them at a barbeque place that offered a deal of bringing five people along and one serving becomes free. Meng He saves Zhong Yu Tang from needing to decline when she tells her colleagues she will join them and be the fifth person. She moves them all along whilst inconspicuously hand signalling Zhong Yu Tang she has her back before leaving with her Sales Team 3 colleagues and deciding upon herself that she will be the one to take up the free meal.
The plans for Zhong Yu Tang and Ji Wen Kai is shopping for the ingredients they need for an evening dinner at Ji Wen Kai’s home with Zhong Yu Tang cooking. But Zhong Yu Tang cutting her finger whilst preparing brings them to have pizza. The topic of their evening is their relationship status as boyfriend and girlfriend. While Ji Wen Kai is unconcerned about people knowing that Zhong Yu Tang is his girlfriend, Zhong Yu Tang is concerned that her dating the CEO of the company will bring negative talk upon them. She sets up some ways for them to communicate with each other without others detecting: don’t send too many messages at work and use the question of whether they want to have coffee as one to mean whether they want to meet up with each other.
The second topic of the night is the fortune teller they encountered in Meng He’s neighbourhood nearly a month ago. A second kiss between them sees Ji Wen Kai and Zhong Yu Tang remember this fortune teller they now feel is a master fortune teller who predicted accurately. After their kiss, both recall him and realise the next day is exactly one month since that day they met him and predicted them to kiss with a month’s time.
Zhong Yu Tang is home after her night at Ji Wen Kai’s. Her father and brother are cleaning up in the kitchen when she gets in. “Good daughter, you’re home,” Zhong Yu Tang’s dad says, welcoming her home. “Would you like dinner?” As Zhong Yu Tang is about to reply, she finds her phone ringing. She replies to dad she isn’t hungry and indicates she’s heading up to her room.
Zhong Yu Tang’s father brings his ear forward to hear the conversation. But he becomes disappointed when he isn’t able to hear any of it. Zhong Yu Han, her brother, tells his dad that it isn’t important to know what she was saying. It’s who was calling that he finds important; and he tells his father he knows who it is. Imitating the sweet tone and words Zhong Yu Tang used, Zhong Yu Han tells his father that it’s her boyfriend. Sis is dating! Zhong Yu Han says to his clueless father.
It’s the next morning. Zhong Yu Tang gets woken up suddenly by her brother. She’s not impressed with him waking her up with his call and saying something isn’t good after a night of piecing the 500-puzzle piece board Ji Wen Kai asked her to do. “What? What’s not good?” she says, a hand to her head. “Sis! Dad is on the verge of death! Quickly come down. Quickly come down.” Zhong Yu Tang immediately gets out of bed at the alarming words. When she heads down, she finds nothing has happened to her dad. He’s at the kitchen perfectly okay. “Daughter, quickly come help out. I can’t manage it,” he says to Zhong Yu Tang as he has a bowl of an egg mixture in his hand. Again, Zhong Yu Tang isn’t impressed with her brother making such a big fuss before asking how many customers they have that he had to wake her up so dramatically. When Zhong Yu Tang turns towards the eating area, she realises there was reason for the dramatic call when she finds a shop full of patrons. She also finds Ji Wen Kai there, waiting on customers.
After the busy service, Zhong Yu Tang, Zhong Yu Tang’s father, Zhong Yu Han and Ji Wen Kai sit down for a meal. It’s omurice for everyone except Ji Wen Kai who gets a bowl of special curry rice. It’s a time where Ji Wen Kai officially announces to Zhong Yu Tang’s father he is dating his daughter. Zhong Yu Tang’s father telling Ji Wen Kai that his wife would have been happy to hear the news because she has always adored him brings in a story telling that reveals the story of Zhong Yu Tang’s mother.
Through Zhong Yu Tang’s recollection of the day, we find out Zhong Yu Tang’s mother had an aneurysm in her brain and she had seemed to have left the world on the day she had gone out to get some free-range eggs she hadn’t needed to. Through Ji Wen Kai’s thoughts, we find out he had a meeting with Zhong Yu Tang’s mother at a time that appears to be before that day she passed away. This meeting Ji Wen Kai had with Zhong Yu Tang’s mother had Zhong Yu Tang’s mother requesting Ji Wen Kai come over in the weekend to have a meal with her family. It’s one where Zhong Yu Tang’s mother had said she was going to make Ji Wen Kai a special omurice and give him the opportunity to make up with her daughter. “So it was because of me,” the recollection of the meeting has Ji Wen Kai say.

Who knew that after Miao Ai Sha confesses, the rest would follow! Wang Zi Yu went first and then Ji Wen Kai!
We didn’t expect the kiss to happen between Ji Wen Kai and Zhong Yu Tang at all! It was really surprising. They really gave us viewers some good close-up shots of the kiss as well! Some extreme close-ups of their kiss! The kisses between Zhong Yu Tang and Ji Wen Kai were good, but just a little voyeuristic with the extreme close-up shots. We had to back away from the screen during those moments.
The way they had a funny scene after the serious kiss scene was a nice way of switching out the atmosphere. So funny! When the scene slowed down as Ji Wen Kai began walking away, we thought Ji Wen Kai was embarrassed for kissing Zhong Yu Tang and being told to cool off. He was definitely embarrassed, but not because of what we thought. We find out it was because he made a move to leave in the wrong direction! Zhong Yu Tang, on the other hand, it looked like she was aware Ji Wen Kai went in the wrong direction. It felt like she was forced to head in the wrong direction because Ji Wen Kai had. She stood there quite a while before she began walking and looked like she decided to turn back when she decided she just couldn’t continue heading in the wrong direction. It looked like that to us.
The start of the episode was really eventful with that huge moment of the kiss; but, the episode then went by slowly for us with the episode feeling like it was full of bits and pieces. It felt like a quick tying up of all the big and small events that has developed in the past 10 episodes. The hair tie issue was ticked off when we see Ji Wen Kai smile at Zhong Yu Tang’s hair tied up with his hair tie being used and not Wang Zi Yu’s; the one month kiss was ticked off with the mention of the fortune teller at their second kiss that occurred the night before the one month was up; Ji Wen Kai’s help with the omurice was revealed to Zhong Yu Tang; the restaurant was bustling again; no more owing Ji Wen Kai with Zhong Yu Tang now she’s his girlfriend and he’s wanting to share her problems; and Mei Mei is back into planning mode with Chairman Wang agreeing. All of that was resolved in this episode.
Miao Ai Sha was also resolved. Ji Wen Kai informs her he has confessed and was accepted. The scene was a very brief scene. It slipped in after the breakfast scene. In this scene, Ji Wen Kai thanks Miao Ai Sha for making him take the leap and confess. We got to see Miao Ai Sha sad for a bit; then smiling and moving on. We don’t mind that Miao Ai Sha is no longer a love rival to Zhong Yu Tang; but, we do hope she’s still got a use in the story. There’s still 9 episodes (we’re assuming Refresh Man will make it to 20 episodes as most Taiwanese dramas are slated for). We hope there is more to come for this character. There was a hint in the last episode she may be paired up with Wang Zi Yu. Maybe this is next for Miao Ai Sha.
But Wang Zi Yu is still looking somewhat strong in the love triangle with Ji Wen Kai and Zhong Yu Tang. If we’re seeing it correctly, Chairman Wang’s mention of Zhong Yu Tang being a perfect daughter-in-law for him could be the next situation to bring in obstacles for Ji Wen Kai and Zhong Yu Tang and keeps Wang Zi Yu strong in the love triangle. It seems likely… Otherwise, we’re not sure why the daughter-in-law would be mentioned. Unless… it was simply a way to lead into the next scene for Wang Zi Yu to confess. We’re really hoping this is not all it was and it’s to introduce something eventful even if we’re feeling the daugther-in-law thing is a bit typical and may not be very exciting. It depends how it gets written, we guess—that is if it is going to take place in the story.
If the whole daughter-in-law thing isn’t the next problem for Ji Wen Kai and Zhong Yu Tang, then maybe it’s the CEO-employee relationship issue. In two scenes—the supermarket scene and at Ji Wen Kai’s home—Zhong Yu Tang was heard expressing concern towards others seeing her relationship with him. She talked about ways to hide their relationship. This might be the next problem to come.
We’re wondering if Mr. Tapko and Russia is something that will be developed. This information popped in at the scene after the first kiss. When Ji Wen Kai was tapping the phone with his finger after reading the message, we thought the action might suggest something is important about the scene—maybe that it’s indicating a future event will come from it and it will impact on Ji Wen Kai and Zhong Yu Tang’s relationship. Hmm…
We were rather disappointed with how quickly the situation with convincing Chairman Wang to change his mind was resolved. This problem came in closer to the end section of the previous episode and it was resolved near the beginning of the episode. It was a quick resolution. That scene where Zhong Yu Tang tells her colleagues they have to wait for news from Wang Zi Yu—the wait was a few minutes. Wang Zi Yu tells her he’s succeeded in convincing his father minutes after. Problem in and problem out, we thought. Guess it might be just to introduce him in to introduce a much bigger problem of the daughter-in-law one—or something else…
The end section of the episode where it focused on Zhong Yu Tang’s mother was sort of interesting since we got us to see who Zhong Yu Tang’s mother is and what happened to her. But still, the backstory didn’t provide much to the progression of plot. We wonder if there is importance with the backstory of the mother. Ji Wen Kai makes a revelation of seeing himself to be the reason to Zhong Yu Tang’s mother passing away… judging from the cliffhanger. But we’re not sure. He may be referring to something else. Very unsure and can’t tell if this means something eventful is coming.
There’s very little to go on to know what’s coming next now that a lot of the things that has been developed has resolved. We do like a story to be a bit more predictable. That way, we can know what to anticipate and where to be excited. The way Episode 11 went, it doesn’t make us extremely anxious and curious to what’s coming next.
