Episode 04 Recap
Zhong Yu Tang successfully handles the matter at the company with purchasing Di Shi Kang’s $1,000,000 leftover stock of Mei Mei to have them agree to renew their contract. But, she finds out her father has a million dollar debt.
A phone call comes from her brother of a situation happening at the eatery after Zhong Yu Tang tells her colleagues how she managed to have the contract for Mei Mei renewed. When Zhong Yu Tang arrives, she finds the place with furniture tipped upside down and her father and brother speaking to a neighbour-friend and his son of more than ten years. She finds out her father had used their eatery as collateral for a $1,000,000 loan from this neighbour-friend to finance the omelette eatery that, unknown to her and her brother, was struggling to thrive after her mother passed away due to her father being unable to replicate the omelette to the taste that brought in patrons.
“Are you going to repay the money for your dad?” the neighbour-friend’s son asks Zhong Yu Tang, responding to Zhong Yu Tang’s question of how much they owed. The amount has Zhong Yu Tang motionless as she thinks about the one million dollars she took out of her bank account to stop Ji Wen Kai from firing Huang Jia Yin with the removal of Sales Team 3.
The neighbour-friend tells them he has been more than considerate than called for (he already agreed to give a six month extension previously). With the deed in his possession, he tells them they will have to face the facts and accept an order of seizure by the courts. Zhong Yu Tang continues to try change this neighbour-friend’s mind. She pleads for more time to repay the loan. But the neighbour-friend is skeptical of time being able to help them repay him. “A million dollars is no small amount. Can you gather it?” he replies. “I can do it,” Zhong Yu Tang says. “Please believe me. I can definitely gather this money.” Their neighbour-friend tells his son not to bother saying any further words after his son asks what there was they could believe her words with and leaves, not wanting to waste anymore time on the matter.
Ji Wen Kai had been inconspicuously listening in to the situation outside the entrance. He enters after he hears Zhong Yu Tang say to her father she will find a way to make sure the eatery remains with them after she expressed how terrible she is for not having any money to help the family out. When Ji Wen Kai enters, he acts like he hasn’t heard anything. He simply goes in wondering what Zhong Yu Tang was doing at here at work hours and asks her to head back to the office with him. To further appear like he is someone who just entered into and sees a room with furniture turned over, he asks Zhong Yu Tang’s father if everything was okay. Zhong Yu Tang’s father nods. Ji Wen Kai taps Zhong Yu Tang’s brother and tells him to help clean up the place before Ji Wen Kai leaves. Zhong Yu Tang follows Ji Wen Kai out after she tells her father to not worry and say again she will find a way.
Ji Wen Kai and Zhong Yu Tang don’t head back to the office. Ji Wen Kai takes Zhong Yu Tang to Wang Hai Di’s father’s shaved ice shop. The conversation between them continues on the topic that filled the silence on the drive to the shaved ice shop: Ji Wen Kai talks about how he didn’t expect her to be able to get the renewal of the contract done so fast. And because of her winning him on this, he’s treating her shaved ice. Zhong Yu Tang is silent. She doesn’t make a move to eat the shaved ice. Only after Ji Wen Kai asks for her to have some and why she wasn’t eating that she begins to eat—grumpily. She mixes the shaved ice with the toppings in a rough manner and stuffs a spoonful into her mouth. Tears stream down Zhong Yu Tang’s cheeks. She wipes them as she eats. Ji Wen Kai looks on with a concerned look; but, he lets her be.
After a message comes into Ji Wen Kai’s phone from Miao Ai Sha, revealing to Ji Wen Kai the purchaser of the million dollar worth of soap is Zhong Yu Tang (he reads an article reporting on Tianxi Group having donated a million dollars worth of beautifying soap to an orphanage); and after Ji Wen Kai asks Zhong Yu Tang whether she was going to protect Sales Team 3 forever, Zhong Yu Tang expresses incompetence: “I’m not that mighty! I’m not even able to help my family.” She then sees herself a loser in life. It’s with this outburst from Zhong Yu Tang that finally Ji Wen Kai attempts to get Zhong Yu Tang to speak to him about the matter of the $1,000,000 debt her father owes that he overheard. However, Ji Wen Kai only gets told it wasn’t any of his business; and he gets told to give her some space and peace. Ji Wen Kai does: he leaves some cash on the table to pay for the shaved ice and allows her the rest of the day off.
Ji Wen Kai helps Zhong Yu Tang’s father pay the $1,000,000 debt. Zhong Yu Tang becomes Ji Wen Kai’s housemaid to pay off the debt.
After Zhong Yu Tang’s father gets off the phone, he informs Zhong Yu Tang and her brother their debt has been paid and it has been paid off by Ji Wen Kai. Zhong Yu Tang is surprised. While her brother celebrates, Zhong Yu Tang feels the matter appearing to be resolved so simply isn’t so. “You are very intelligent,” Ji Wen Kai says suddenly appearing before them, answering Zhong Yu Tang’s cautious response to the news.
Ji Wen Kai and Zhong Yu Tang take a walk outside. A hesitant and uncertain expression is apparent on Zhong Yu Tang’s face as she follows behind Ji Wen Kai who walks with a bounce in his step. It seems it was Zhong Yu Tang wanting to express her thanks to Ji Wen Kai, but uncertainty stopped it from coming out straightforwardly— “No matter what your motive is, thank you for helping my family pay back the debt,” she comes out with finally. Ji Wen Kai returns a smart response. “You don’t even know what my motive is. Why are you thanking me so soon? Aren’t you afraid you’ll regret it?” He takes a seat and swings on the swing set in the playground before them. Zhong Yu Tang speeds her steps up to ask Ji Wen Kai how he wants her to repay him. “Who says I want you to pay it back?” he replies. He explains to Zhong Yu Tang that he had bought it for the spa resort he is thinking of developing in the future. He pulls out a drawing and demonstrates what it’ll house. Zhong Yu Tang is horrified by the thought of their family business becoming a spa resort—one she says Ji Wen Kai ate at regularly when he was younger and should have some sort of attachment towards. She pleads Ji Wen Kai to give her three months to gather the money. Ji Wen Kai doesn’t believe her capabilities. The way she handled Mei Mei is his reason for not believing her words. However, Zhong Yu Tang’s persistence has Ji Wen Kai agree to give her some time to think of a way when her desperate pleas become too noisy for him. He then walks away and leaves with a corner of his lips curling upwards.
A few days pass and Zhong Yu Tang still hasn’t been able to come up with a way to pay Ji Wen Kai back for the debt he paid off for her family. She only appears at Ji Wen Kai’s door, pleading for more time with a threat to continue to ring his doorbell every hour if he doesn’t allow it. In his laggardly state, Ji Wen Kai agrees. He then walks back into his house. Zhong Yu Tang invites herself in and becomes a bother to Ji Wen Kai: she sits with her attention on him when he tries to read a book at the sofa; and she follows him to the kitchen counter and stands watching him pour coffee into his cup.
“I will definitely, definitely, definitely pay back the money to you. I guarantee you with my honour,” Zhong Yu Tang says when Ji Wen Kai turns to her with annoyance. Ji Wen Kai finds the words ridiculous. They sound as if she was trying to gain his friendship. What he needs is a loan repayment note. Zhong Yu Tang immediately goes reaching for paper and pen to write one out—one that states she will pay him $2,000 per month. However, Ji Wen Kai feels the amount is an embarrassment. Ultimately, Ji Wen Kai agrees on Zhong Yu Tang paying him back through Zhong Yu Tang being his housemaid. He agrees to write off the million dollars with cleaning chores and demands around the house—each task she does well she receives pieces of puzzles to indicate it being written off.
Ji Wen Kai’s vision for Sales Team 3 is a step closer to being realised. Huang Jia Yin becomes active in work. She assists Zhong Yu Tang in re-establishing the Mei Mei brand after she finds out Zhong Yu Tang used her own money to renew the contract with Di Shi Kang. She also backs Zhong Yu Tang up when her Sales Team 3 colleagues attempt to have Zhong Yu Tang take charge of the Yours project that they all don’t want to be selected to be in charge of.
Huang Jia Yin realises Zhong Yu Tang had spent her own money to save their team when she goes to read the news article on Jiang Hui Xin’s computer about Tianxi Group’s donation of a million dollars of beautifying soap to an orphanage. While everyone believes it’s Tianxi Group, Huang Jia Yin finds it odd: it’s usually Di Shi Kang who does the donating, she says. She asks Zhong Yu Tang to follow her outside of the office. There, Huang Jia Yin asks Zhong Yu Tang how she got Di Shi Kang to renew the contract and whether it was related to the orphanage. Zhong Yu Tang is hesitant to answer. Ji Wen Kai appears and answers for Zhong Yu Tang. “That’s right. It was Zhong Yu Tang. Out of her own pocket, she spent a million dollars to purchase the leftover stock and donated it to the orphanage. The reason she did this was for you, Huang Jia Yin.”
Huang Jia Yin’s attitude for work improves. She comes up with a plan to re-establish Mei Mei. That plan is giving out surveys on the street for people’s opinion of Mei Mei beautifying soap. She also helps Zhong Yu Tang out with her share of the surveys when she finished handing out her share to allow Zhong Yu Tang to come up with possible contacts that she knows of and may be useful for the Yours project that Zhong Yu Tang agreed to be in charge of. The person she comes up with is a person known as Head Secretary Zhang. She has trouble meeting Head Secretary Zhang when she asks the receptionists at Yours to be allowed to see him. She attempts to soften them with complimentary Mei Mei beautifying soap; however, the receptionists aren’t interested. Zhong Yu Tang persists. She explains the soap’s wonderful abilities with saying how it’s great to use and has made her beautiful skin the way it is. A man in a suit suddenly appears before them, agreeing with Zhong Yu Tang.
Thoughts
Ji Wen Kai—he keeps looking like he’s there to just egg Zhong Yu Tang on! He knows he can get a good reaction from her, too. But we can see he uses that and her competitive nature to help her—using it to get her to show her potential… well, that’s what we’re thinking Ji Wen Kai is doing when he does and says things that push her buttons like saying he’ll turn Zhong Yu Tang’s family business into a spa resort.
That scene where Zhong Yu Tang was stuffing in her sadness after realising she couldn’t help her family because she used the money elsewhere, it was sad! Ji Wen Kai was going about in his usual ‘egging-on’ ways, but he was being careful not to overdo it. We could see he was holding a little of it back. This scene was interesting to watch.
We like how the writers chose to make Zhong Yu Tang repay the debt Ji Wen Kai paid off for their family with making her become his housemaid. It means it’s one more location for good relationship developments! With the pieces of puzzles, though—the puzzle pieces that Ji Wen Kai is giving Zhong Yu Tang as a token of her repaying her debt, will it build up to something that signifies something? We’re expecting for the puzzles to piece together into some important image. Then again, he’s giving out a million puzzles! It’ll be a mighty big puzzle! What puzzle has a million pieces?! So, maybe the pieces of puzzles that Ji Wen Kai gives won’t become something significant… He doesn’t possibly have a million puzzle pieces around the house, does he? He’d need one thousand of those one thousand puzzle piece puzzle boards! Hmm… actually was it a million puzzle pieces Ji Wen Kai was giving to Zhong Yu Tang? Can’t remember… Anyway, we’ll see if the puzzles become important in the story. :oP :oP.
They give another close contact scene between Zhong Yu Tang and Ji Wen Kai. Last week, we thought some of the close contact ones sprung on us and felt unnatural. The accidental fall in the bedroom in this episode, we saw it coming and expected something more to come from it, so it was a good scene.
This accidental fall scene made Miao Ai Sha come into the picture as a love rival. It was where Zhong Yu Tang was over at Ji Wen Kai’s house doing some housework. Whilst Ji Wen Kai fights over a bedspread he found too floral for his liking with Zhong Yu Tang, Miao Ai Sha was outside the house, calling Ji Wen Kai’s home. She came to ask him to sign some documents that the other party was impatiently waiting to be signed. Miao Ai Sha ended up needing to head in herself with the key to his house that she had in her possession. And that’s when she comes walking into a scene where Zhong Yu Tang is on top of Ji Wen Kai on the bed, staring at each other.
It was actually hard to figure out what was going through Miao Ai Sha’s mind when she looked onto the scene of Zhong Yu Tang on top of Ji Wen Kai on the bed. It was definitely surprise or shock. But, we don’t know if it’s shock and surprise from seeing someone she has a crush on in a compromising position or if it’s shock and surprise from just seeing two people in a compromising position. We know Miao Ai Sha is written as a character who has a crush on Ji Wen Kai, but, this scene wasn’t enough to show us she was affected—especially when the scene switched out to a funny moment and—rather than concern and jealousy coming through—it made Miao Ai Sha look like she was the properly behaved girl finding what she was seeing odd when Ji Wen Kai suddenly begins teasing Zhong Yu Tang with the two pieces of puzzles he had in his hand that he grabbed from the bed. We know that Ji Wen Kai and Miao Ai Sha are close though. We saw Ji Wen Kai agree to go have dinner with Miao Ai Sha to celebrate her birthday and she has a key to his house.
The scene near the end of the episode where Zhong Yu Tang comes into work and clocks in, she says, “Safe!” Has she always gotten to work just on time or is this showing that Zhong Yu Tang now simply gets to work on time and not early like she used to? For some reason, Zhong Yu Tang came across to us as someone who got to work early. There was one scene in the first episode (we think it was in the first episode) where she made it to work just in time because her phone alarm didn’t go off from a flat battery. That scene made us believe she was never ever just on time, but always early. So, seeing Zhong Yu Tang show she’s just getting to work on time and happy she just got to work on time was a small and interesting character development to Zhong Yu Tang’s character.
That stance she did when she said “safe” was very cute, actually! :oP :oP. Quite a funny scene, too. It looked so insignificant yet there was focus on it. Zhong Yu Tang just holds the stance for a while. She then stands there for a while doing not much but sweep the room before she begins casually walking to Huang Jia Yin. Unusual scene.
This episode was again an interesting and fun episode! Enjoyed it! :o) :o).
