Love Cuisine, Final: Behind the Scenes

This is the English translations for the Behind the Scenes of Love Cuisine, Final Episode (料理高校生 最終回 BTS). We’d liked to give a head’s up and say that there are some parts of the BTS (behind the scenes) that we did struggle to hear and translate and we’ve made notes stating our inability to translate the part. Our primary language is not Mandarin-Chinese and we translate by the Chinese subtitles that are supplied in the videos.

SCHOOL KITCHEN, Hong Yan Xiang, Su Xiao Xuan

A smiling Su Xiao Xuan has her cupped hands positioned underneath a smiling Hong Yan Xiang’s chin.

Hong Yang Xiang turns to the camera.

Hong Yang Xiang laughs hard at his own comment.

Cut in scene and jump in time.

Su Xiao Xuan places her cupped hands underneath Hong Yan Xiang’s chin.

Hong Yan Xiang bursts in laughter.

SCHOOL, OUTSIDE Zhang Luo Ti, Calvin Lee

Filming the action fight scene that takes place between Tang Hao and Li Zhi Chao.

Zhang Luo Ti as Tang Hao and Calvin Lee as Li Zhi Chao take turns in attacking and avoiding each other with hands and feet swipes. Zhang Luo Ti as Tang Hao fails to grab hold of Calvin Lee/Li Zhi Chao’s stick. It comes down onto Zhang Lou Ti’s left shoulder. His hand and arms wrap around it loosely.

The acting still continues. Li Zhi Chao pushes a hand in Tang Hao’s stomach area.

Calvin Lee as Li Zhi Chao freeze in position while Zhang Luo Ti looks up to position his hands in a correct blocking position.

Calvin Lee removes himself from the spot and resumes as normal. Zhang Luo Ti feigns injury with a hand to his stomach and unsteady.

Cut to another filming of action scene between Tang Hao and Li Zhi Chao. Li Zhi Chao stabs a hand between Tang Hao’s legs. Tang Hao avoids and places a hand in front in surprise.

Tang Hao’s face scrunches in pain.

Calvin Lee maintains his position. Calvin Lee silently laughs.

Zhang Luo Ti and Calvin Lee exit out of acting. Zhang Lou Ti has his hand at the area between his legs in pain. Calvin Lee has a hand over his mouth, embarrassed.

OUTSIDE LOCATION Lego Li, Allison Lin

Lego Li and Allison Lin talk to the camera.

Allison Lin expresses shock.

Allison Lin waves off the deduction made by Lego Li.

Lego Li smiles mischievously. Allison Lin bends over in silent laughing. She returns back up after a moment.

Allison Lin has a finger to her lips, eyes looking away to the right.

Allison Lin bends over in silent laughter upon her own comment. She continues to hold her hand over her mouth as Lego Li continues talking.

Allison Lin’s mouth is wide in shock with a finger pointed at Lego Li for his shocking comment. Lego Li laughs at his cheeky comment.

Cut to scene and jump in time. Allison Lin rehearses her lines as she plays with her fingernails.

Lego Li performs fighting moves with the sticks he picked up from the ground.

Allison Lin repeats the latter half of her lines after looking left to Lego Li who continues to perform fighting moves with the sticks in his hand:

Lego Li angrily snaps back the stick in his right into himself. Allison Lin peers left to Lego Li, a little scared.

Allison Lin stops playing her fingernail. She doesn’t believe Lego Li has remembered the script correctly.

Allison Lin goes to the seat between them and grabs the script.

Lego Li stamps the stick in his right hand mightily in the air.

Allison Lin takes a read of the script.

Lego Li goes to take a look at the script Allison Lin has in her hands. He takes a moment to read it.

Allison Lin reads the lines.

Allison Lin laughs at Lego Li for his mistake. Lego Li speaks his line:

Cut scene. Jump in time. Rehearsing lines continues. Lego Li gets in Allison Lin’s face and points a stick at Allison Lin’s head.

Allison Lin cowers from Lego Li’s telling off. She plays with her fingernails as she comes in with her line:

Lego Li performs fighting moves with the sticks he has in his hands.

One of the sticks get caught in Lego Li’s jacket. Allison Lin jumps a bit. It stops Lego Li in his performance.

Lego Li begins to turn his stick into a magic wand after picking up on Allison Lin changing her lines to speaking about a magic school. Lego Li points and waves it at Allison Lin as if casting a spell with his wand.

Allison Lin smiles amused and points a finger at Lego Li for the ‘magic wand’ he’s pointed at her. Lego Li casts a spell with it:

Allison Lin jumps and looks around in surprise, as if weapons has magically disappeared.

Lego Li waves his ‘wand’. He casts another spell:

Allison Lin puts a hand over her mouth and bends over to laugh. Lego Li continues to point his magic wand to cast another spell:

Lego Li does another cast of the wand:

Allison Lin brings a restrained hand and hits the space between her and Lego Li in response to Lego Li’s cheekiness.

Cut in scene. Jump in time. Allison Lin rehearses her lines.

Allison Lin burst out laughing. Lego Li smiles, amused.

Allison Lin pulls at her skivvy.

Cut scene. Jump in time. Rehearsing lines again.

Lego Li’s expression is anger. He snaps in half a stick in his hand and chucks it to the ground.

Allison Lin acts scared. She jumps. Lego Li then extends a hand to the back of Allison Lin. Allison Lin goes into the arm and leans onto Lego Li’s chest with a hand on his chest. Lego Li speaks his line:

Lego Li looks down at Allison Lin cuddled up into him. He waits for her to speak her line.

Allison Lin brings her head off from Lego Li’s chest to hear the interviewer speaking to her:

Lego Li brings Allison Lin back to his chest. Allison Lin holds her right palm up in the air.

Allison Lin snaps her arm down to her side.

Lego Li makes his chest more staunch and tightens his hug on Allison Lin.

Allison Lin looks at the camera and waves her right hand in understanding.

Allison Lin’s response bring Lego Li to staunch his chest more. Allison Lin screams from suddenly having Lego Li’s chest going into her face.

Lego Li relaxes his hug. Lego Li and Allison Lin return to stand normally beside each other with Lego Li’s arm still around Allison Lin.

INDOOR PUBLIC AREA Chen Meng Chen, Zhang Luo Ti

Chen Meng Chen talks to the camera as Zhang Luo Ti is getting his makeup retouched.

Cut to scene of Chen Meng Chen standing next to Zhang Luo Ti sitting down, rehearsing their lines.

Zhang Luo Ti turns to the camera. His expression becomes menacing as he completes his line:

Zhang Luo Ti returns his expression back to normal. Chen Meng Chen, who is turned to face the camera, slaps a hand down onto Zhang Luo Ti’s shoulder. Zhang Luo Ti chuckles.

INDOOR PUBLIC AREA Chen Meng Chen

Chen Meng Chen gives words of wisdom to the camera.

Chen Meng Chen brings a hand to the camera with forefinger and thumb crosses over each other.

Camera focuses on her hand that forms a heart.

SICKBAY Zhang Luo Ti, Chen Meng Chen

Filming Zhang Luo Ti on the bed. Chen Meng Chen sits at a chair by his bed. Zhang Luo Ti drinks the drink Chen Meng Chen had handed to him.

Filming stops. Zhang Luo Ti puts a hand to his throat and expresses trouble breathing. Chen Meng Chen smiles then bends over laughing at Zhang Luo Ti’s joke.

Zhang Luo Ti convulses repeatedly. Chen Meng Chen reaches for the cup Zhang Luo Ti has in his hand.

Camera spins to Chen Meng Chen holding the cup out to the camera.

Camera swivels back to Zhang Luo Ti convulsing on his bed.

Zhang Luo Ti turns his convulsing into a dance with his arms.

Chen Meng Chen enters into the shot.

FACULTY OFFICE Allison Lin, Nita Lei

Nita Lei gets help from the Director on her line.

The director pronounces the words for Nita Lei. Nita Lei attempts the line, but the tone is off. The crew repeats it for Nita Lei. Nita Lei turns to the crew.

Cut to filming the scene.

Nita Lei’s tone of 麥擱肖想 is wrong.

The back of Allison Lin is to the camera. She appears to be smiling as an on-screen text captions, ‘smiling’. Filming stops. Nita Lei laughs in embarrassment.

Nita Lei repeats the last two words of the Taiwanese phrase and apologises once more.

Cut to scene of crew member fixing Nita Lei’s clothes. Nita Lei complains of the Taiwanese line she is struggling to say correctly.

Cut to scene. Nita Lei sticks a piece of paper with her lines on Allison Lin’s chest.

Nita Lei quietly reads the Taiwanese line on the paper stuck on Allison Lin’s chest to herself.

Allison Lin turns to the camera.

Cut scene. Another shot of the scene.

Nita Lei seems succeeds with speaking the Taiwanese phrase—

Cut scene. Jump in time. Nita Lei as Jiang Pei Ying sits at her desk. Allison Lin as Fang Xiao Rou stands by her desk. Director announces a good shot:

Nita Lei gets off her seat. She goes to Allison Lin excited.

Nita Lei takes the paper she stuck on Allison Lin’s chest. She holds it out to the camera.

Nita Lei turns to Allison Lin.

OUTSIDE COFFEE SHOP, HAN JIE AND MAGGIE MEETING PLACE, Nita Lei

Nita Lei talks to the camera. The director with Angel Hong (actress playing Maggie) is in the backgroun.

Nita Lei’s expression turns angry.

Nita Lei laughs.

Angel Hong follows the director into the coffee shop. Nita Lei points to Angel Hong’s black and grey handbag.

INSIDE COFFEE SHOP Allison Lin, Nita Lei

Interviewer laughs at Allison Lin’s response.

Nita Lei puts a hand across Allison Lin’s shoulder in support.

Nita Lei struggles to find reasons why she believes so.

Nita Lei coughs.

Nita Lei coughs again.

Allison Lin begins protesting, but stops herself. Teeth is clenched, eyes closed, unimpressed with Nita Lei.

Allison Lin returns back to normal. She lets it go.

Allison Lin shows a defeated look.

Nita Lei pauses, thinks for a moment.

OUTSIDE COFFEE SHOP Allison Lin, Nita Lei

Allison Lin speaks her character’s line:

Both Allison Lin and Nita Lei speak lines that aren’t in the script.

Allison Lin clears the throat.

Nita Lei nods happily and excitedly.

Allison Lin winks to the camera.

Nita Lei’s happy and excited person changes to a straight face.

Nita Lei laughs at her own comment. Allison Lin remains serious.

ELEVATOR FOYER Nita Lei

Nita Lei plays around and sings. A female crew member laughs at Nita Lei’s silliness.

Nita Lei stops singing and laughs.

Nita Lei goes to a male crew member and hides herself.

Cut to scene of Nita Lei, Calvin Lee and crew members waiting by the elevators. Nita Lei talks to Calvin Lee as a female voice announces the final show at Gongliao (NB: not too sure if we got the correct translation for the female making an announcement about the final show. No Chinese subtitles.)

(Intermission)

STREETS, NIGHT Lego Li, Allison Lin

Amongst themselves, Lego Li and Allison Lin playfully discusses about the scene of Han Jie finding Fang Xiao Rou watching Han Jie having coffee with Maggie.

Allison Lin enters the shot and grabs an arm of Lego Li’s.

Allison Lin gives Lego Li’s arm a couple of hits.

Lego Li smiles. He turns his attention to the camera.

Allison Lin wipes her forehead, unimpressed.

Lego Li moves around. Allison Lin follows him and keeps pressing on with the issue.

Lego Li continues singing about the new lady, ignoring Allison Lin’s dislike of the situation. Allison Lin hangs around at his back.

Lego Li smiles cheekily to the camera. Allison Lin points a finger at him. (instrumental “I Won’t Leave” by Princess Ai and A-Lin begins playing in the background).

Allison Lin whacks a hand at his back.

Lego Li continues to face the camera with a cheeky smile.

Allison Lin gives Lego Li another whack at his shoulder.

Cut scene. Jump in time.

Shots come in as Lego Li continues to speak—behind the scene shots of Allison Lin wearing the mermaid costume in Episode 1 comes in: Allison Lin poses sitting on the seaside rocks. Lego Li, in yellow shirt and white pants, poses beside Allison Lin with a fishing net in his hand. A crew member fixes Allison Lin’s hair.

Shots return back to Lego Li at the present.

Lego Li turns his attention to the right of him to Allison Lin off-screen.

Camera spins and bring Allison Lin into shot. A crew member is seen speaking to her as Lego Li responds to Allison Lin to the camera. Lego Li resumes speaking to the camera.

Lego Li turns behind to Allison Lin. He finds her still with the crew member. He returns back to the camera. He points and commands:

Lego Li jumps once.

CAR REAR Lego Li, Allison Lin

Allison Lin sits with her face still, expressionless and blank, mouth slightly opened. Lego Li fiddles with a white small round item in his fingers.

Lego Li shows to Allison Lin the item he’s been fiddling with.

Lego Li puts it in Allison Lin’s mouth. She receives it.

Allison Lin closes her eyes and forces a smile.

Allison Lin smile-frowns.

Cut scene.

In the car park, a car with headlights on move to point in the direction of the ocean. Cut to scene of the ocean in the background. A crew member opens an umbrella. It turns over with the strong wind. The crew member laughs at the sight of the inside-out umbrella.

Cut to crew working in rain jackets setting up the camera underneath a large umbrella.

Cut scene to Lego Li in a suit and Allison Lin in her mermaid costume in preparation for the wedding photo scene. Whilst a crew member tends to Allison Lin’s appearance, Lego Li has a digital camera in his hands. He has it pointed at Allison Lin. He takes a picture.

Lego Li takes a look at the shot he’s taken. Camera zooms closer to the pair.

Lego Li turns to Allison Lin.

Lego Li goes back to playing with the digital camera. He points it at Allison Lin and tells her once more the mermaid costume suits her well.

Cut scene to Allison Lin with Nita Lei and Calvin Lee at the boot of the car. Nita Lei holds the collar of her clothes over her mouth. Allison Lin stands turned into Nita Lei. Calvin Lee stands at the side, arms folded.

Calvin Lee body stiffens and trembles.

Nita Lei holds a camera phone out. It points at herself and Calvin Lee.

Male crew member prepare cast to ready themselves to take a photo:

Cut scene to filming the scene of the group shot. Camera zooms into Lego Li and Allison Lin standing facing each other. Lego Li moves his hand, trembling.

Shots of the camera people operating the camera; wide shot of the cast posing for the photo in the miserably wet and rainy day.

Camera zooms into a medium shot of Lego Li and Allison Lin as their characters, looking happily at each other; and Hong Yan Xiang and Su Xiao Xuan smiling.

Lego Li and Allison Lin as their character film their kiss. Calvin Lee as Li Zhi Chao looks on with a look of cheekiness. Nita Lei, Hong Yan Xiang and Su Xiao Xuan as their character make poses.

SCHOOL, SKY GARDEN, Lego Li, Allison Lin

On location of the final scene of the series. Lego Li and Allison Lin stands still, in character.

Lego Li throws his arms up in the air. Allison Lin stands still in her position, head down, eyes closed. She gives a small scream:

Allison Lin puts a hand over her mouth and begins to cry as a crew member puts a coat over her.

Lego Li turns around. He realises Allison Lin is crying. He extends his arms to her. Cut scene to Lego Li hugging and patting a crying Allison Lin.

Allison Lin continues to cry. Lego Li brings a hand to cradle her head. Cut to scene of a teary Allison Lin hugging a female crew member. Cut to scene of Lego Li hugging a male crew member. Lego Li and the male crew member part. Lego Li exhales a slow exhale towards the sky.

Cut to scene of Lego Li speaking to the camera with Allison Lin, adjacent, eyes red.

Allison Lin speaks a quiet ‘yes’ and nods.

Allison Lin leans on Lego Li’s shoulder as Lego Li continues speaking.

Cut scene. Jump in time.

Julia and Tania Comments:

Though the last handful of episodes of the series hadn’t been too great of a watch, the behind the scenes are still great. This was an awesome final behind the scenes for the series! The Lego Li and Allison Lin interactions are still so entertaining to watch! They are so much more entertaining than their character counterparts! We love watching them behind the scenes when they are so funny and they seem to meld with each other so well off-screen. We hope to see these two in other dramas. It will be great if we could get the chance to see them working together again in the same drama, but different characters. Han Jie and Fang Xiao Rou just didn’t match up to the interactions between the actors behind them! LOVE!
